DORITOS CASSEROLE INGREDIENTS

Dorito Casserole raw ingredients that are labeled

You’ll need:

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • Half of a yellow onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 packet of taco seasoning
  • 1 (12-ounce) bag of frozen corn
  • 1 (14.5-ounce) can of petite diced tomatoes with green chiles, NOT drained
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups finely crushed Doritos
  • 1 cup loosely crushed Doritos
  • 3 cups Mexican cheese blend
  • Sliced green onions, diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, avocado, sour cream for garnish (optional)

HOW DO YOU COOK WITH DORITOS?

Doritos add a delicious crunch to many Mexican-inspired dishes. They can be crushed and added right into the casserole mixture or sprinkled on top along with cheese to finish off the casserole. If you are planning to make your recipe ahead of time, we recommend waiting to add the Doritos to the top until right before baking so they don’t become soggy.

DORITO CASSEROLE SUBSTITUTIONS AND ALTERATIONS

BLACK BEANS: Want to add another layer of flavor to this ground beef Doritos casserole? Black beans are a great addition to this recipe. Add one cup of canned black beans alongside the corn and tomatoes.

GROUND MEAT: Ground turkey, ground pork, or ground chicken would all work well in this hearty casserole as a substitute for ground beef.

CHEESE: Use cheddar cheese, pepper Jack cheese, or Monterey Jack cheese as alternatives to the Mexican cheese blend.

DORITOS: Add a flavor twist by switching out the cheesy Doritos for cool ranch Doritos if you have those on hand.

VEGGIES: You could also mix bell peppers into the mixture for an added pop of color and freshness.

HOW TO MAKE DORITO CASSEROLE

OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS

This is a great freezer meal. Double your recipe and make a second casserole dish of this delicious meal for later. Hold off on adding the top Doritos and cheese so that you have a fresh crunchy topping when you thaw and bake.

STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 350°F.

STEP TWO: Spray a 9×13-inch dish with nonstick spray.

STEP THREE: Gently crush the chips, and set them aside. Two cups should be crushed fine, more like bread crumbs and one cup should be larger chunks, to be spread on top at the end.

PRO TIP:

Put the Doritos in a Ziploc gallon bag and smash with your hands or a rolling pin.

STEP FOUR: In a large skillet cook the ground beef and onions. Drain any extra grease.

PRO TIP:

For an even quicker cooking time, the ground beef and onions can be cooked ahead of time. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to a month.

Serve with your favorite taco toppings including diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, guacamole, salsa, and sour cream.

This recipe is a perfect stand-alone dish, but if you’re looking to fill your plate a little more, pair it with Mexican corn salad, or elote (Mexican street corn). You can even serve it with Spanish rice.

I add either a can of black beans or a can of pinto beans when I make this adds more flavor. Everyone loves it.

  2. Becky adams says

I would use the spicy tomatoes and greeen chilis to give it a lil more heat,, I would also addd some sliced black olives after removing it from the oven

  3. Linda Batchelor says

I gave it a 5 star because it sounds great just the way it is. I’ll try it and then decide if I want black beans in it.

  4. Ellen says

This looks delicious and so easy to pull together!! But I’d swap the beef for venison. We have a ton of it in the freezer, and I’ve had such a hard time finding a decent price for beef lately!

  5. Emilie says

I love the taco seasoned ground beef in this, a perfect pairing. Sour cream and tomatoes would be a perfect topper. Next time to try and add some more veggies into the mix, adding some bell pepper into it would be great or as the topper on a bed of lettuce for a deluxe taco salad!

  6. Ferne says

Sounds great. I most certainly will make this. I usually use ground turkey in place of beef. With the seasonings it’s hard to tell the difference. I always add black beans to anything with a Mexican flavor and I add mushrooms to almost everything. That’s how I will make this casserole.

  7. Bianca says

Definitely will be trying this recipe for my next gathering! I would totally jazz it up by adding in some black beans too. Sounds delish!

  8. Danielle Smith says

There is nothing wrong with the way it is. I like to add green onions black olives and spicy use some jalapeños maybe some crushed red pepper yummy

  9. Deborrah Bolls says

Looks delicious… I think I’d add some sauteed green pepper and onion strips and top with pickled jalapeno slices.

  10. Susan Kline says

I would definitely add black beans and I would top with chopped black olives. I might even put some sliced olives in the casserole. It sounds as though it will be a regular item in our memo rotation.

Hi! This recipe hits all the high notes for me! I would add 1 can drained and rinsed pinto beans!

  12. Patty Webster says

Love this recipe. I would use beef, montrey. Jack cheese, cheddar cheese and guacamole sauce along with lettuce, tomato and sour cream.

  13. Holly says

I would add black olives, jalapeños and tostitos cheese dip (I love cheese 🤷‍♀️). Or, I also like to mix salsa and sour cream together as a topping.

  14. Sheila says

    5 stars
As for toppings I would add a small amount of sour cream topped with a very small amount of lettuce, tomatoes, and cheddar cheese. I would substitute the Mexican cheese blend for cheddar. I would not add black beans (I am not a fan of black beans) but I would probably have some on the side if someone wanted them.

  15. Ilia Marcela says

    5 stars
I would add a layer of guacamole. I was no so sure about the frozen corn but when y see the final picture OMG!!! In love!!!

  16. Stephanie says

I love making casseroles & this will be my next one to make with chicken rather then beef😋😋😋

  17. Marilyn W. says

I like it a little spicy, so I would add some jalapeno peppers and I would add cilantro as well (love that stuff).
