Butterfinger Balls Recipe Ingredients

Looking for a no-bake treat that’s both easy and irresistible? These homemade Butterfinger Balls are the perfect recipe for you. These delectable 2-bite candies are a perfect blend of creamy peanut butter, crunchy graham cracker crumbs, and rich chocolatey goodness.

Butterfinger Balls raw ingredients that are labeled

You’ll Need:

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter (We used Great Value, but you can use your favorite brand)
  • ¼ cup salted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ¾ cup graham cracker crumbs
  • ½ cup crushed Butterfinger candy (6 fun-size bars) plus 1-2 extra crushed candy bars for optional garnish
  • 10 ounces chocolate flavored almond bark (divided into 8 ounces and 2 ounces)

Substitutions and Additions For Homemade Butterfinger Balls

If you’re looking to tweak this Butterfinger Balls recipe to suit your preferences or dietary needs, here are some easy substitutions and additions you can try:

Creamy Peanut Butter: For a twist on flavor, experiment with different nut butters like almond or cashew butter. Keep in mind that using chunky peanut butter will alter the texture of the balls.

We do NOT recommend you replace the creamy peanut butter with natural peanut butter. Natural peanut butter has too much oil in it, and your Butterfinger bites recipe won’t hold together properly.

Salted Butter: If you prefer unsalted butter or have dietary restrictions, feel free to swap it out for margarine, oil spreads, or vegan butter.

Pure Vanilla Extract: While vanilla extract adds a classic flavor, you can get creative by using other extracts such as almond or maple for a unique flavor.

Powdered Sugar: You can substitute powdered sugar with a powdered sugar alternative like monk fruit sweetener or erythritol. Just be aware that this may affect the sweetness and texture of the balls.

Graham Cracker Crumbs: Other crushed cookies will work well in this recipe. Try Biscoff cookies or gingersnaps, but keep in mind the flavor will be different. For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free graham cracker crumbs or crushed gluten-free cookies.

Chocolate Flavored Almond Bark: If you’re not a fan of almond bark or want to explore different chocolate flavors, try using chocolate chips, melting chocolate, or candy melts in various flavors like milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white chocolate. Just make sure you melt them using the correct method so they become smooth for easy coating.

How To Make Butterfinger Balls

Get ready to whip up some mouthwatering Butterfinger Balls! They’re a surefire hit at any gathering. We’ll first make a soft peanut butter and Butter finger mixture, then we’ll roll it into balls. Finally, we’ll coat them in delicious chocolate and add a garnish for a pretty aesthetic. We guarantee you’re going to love this easy recipe!

STEP ONE: Gather your ingredients and make sure your butter has been softened to room temperature before you begin. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

STEP TWO: In a large mixing bowl, add the creamy peanut butter, softened butter, and vanilla. Use a handheld electric mixer to on medium-high to beat the mixture together until it’s smooth.

STEP THREE: Lower the speed of your hand mixer to medium-low and add in the powdered sugar, graham cracker crumbs, and ½ cup of the crushed Butterfingers. Blend until the mixture is well combined.

STEP FOUR: Use a 1 tablespoon cookie scoop to scoop the Butterfinger mixture. Roll the scooped mixture into a round ball and set it on the prepared baking sheet. Then, repeat the process with the remaining Butterfinger mixture. Set the baking sheet in the refrigerator to chill for at least 30 minutes.

PRO TIP: If you need to make more than 28 Butter finger balls, you can make each ball a bit smaller, or use a small cookie scoop. You may need a bit more melted chocolate to cover additional balls.

PRO TIP: Using a portion scoop or measuring spoon helps ensure your Butterfinger truffles are all uniform in size.

STEP FIVE: Add 8 ounces of chocolate almond bark to a shallow, microwave-safe bowl. Heat at full power for 45 seconds. Stir, then continue heating in 30-second intervals, stirring between each. When there are only a few little pieces of unmelted almond bark left, stir until the melted chocolate almond bark is a consistent texture.

PRO TIP: It’s always a good idea to use the package instructions for melting your specific almond bark or other melting chocolate.

STEP SIX: Remove the chilled balls from the fridge and roll one of the Butterfinger Balls in the melted chocolate. Gently roll the ball until it’s completely coated, then use a small spoon or fork to carefully remove the ball from the chocolate. Allow any excess chocolate to drip off the ball and back into the bowl. Set the ball back on the parchment paper and allow the chocolate to harden into a crunchy outer layer. Repeat for the remaining balls.

PRO TIP: To make Butterfinger Buckeye Balls, make sure to leave a circle on each of the Butterfinger Balls uncoated with chocolate.

STEP SEVEN: Add the remaining 2 ounces of chocolate almond bark to a small microwaveable bowl. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the almond bark is smooth.

STEP EIGHT: Once the chocolate balls have hardened, use a spoon or a piping bag with a tiny slit to drizzle chocolate over the tops. Sprinkle with a bit of the extra crushed Butterfinger bars on top of the drizzle to give the bite-size Butterfinger Balls some extra crunch. Store in the fridge until you’re ready to serve. Enjoy!

How To Store Homemade Butterfinger Balls

These no-bake sweets are delicious, and you’ll want to eat every single one. Make sure to store them properly so nothing goes to waste.

MAKE AHEAD: You can easily prepare Butterfinger Balls ahead of time to save time on busy days or for upcoming events. Make the recipe as written, and once the chocolate coating is firm, transfer the balls to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator until ready to serve. They’ll stay fresh for up to a week, but if you’re serving these for a party or to guests, you may want to serve within a few days. For longer-term storage, freeze instead.

IN THE FRIDGE: To keep your Butterfinger Balls fresh and delicious, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. When properly stored, they will stay fresh for up to one week. Before serving, allow them to come to room temperature for about 10-15 minutes to soften slightly and enhance their flavor. However, they shouldn’t be stored at room temperature for long periods of time.

IN THE FREEZER: If you want to extend the shelf life of your Butterfinger Balls, you can store them in the freezer for longer-term storage. Place the balls in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until firm. Once frozen, transfer them to a freezer-safe container or Ziploc bag, removing as much air as possible before sealing. They will keep well in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Remove the Butterfinger bites from the freezer and allow them to thaw in the fridge for a few hours before enjoying them again.

These Butterfinger Balls are an irresistible combination of creamy peanut butter, powdered sugar, graham cracker crumbs, and crushed Butterfinger candy, coated in crispy chocolate bark. Easy to make and perfect for any occasion, these sweet treats are sure to impress!
Prep Time 15 minutes
Total Time 1 hour
Servings 28

Ingredients

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter, your favorite brand, I used Great Value
  • ¼ cup salted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ¾ cup graham cracker crumbs
  • ½ cup crushed Butterfinger candy, 6 fun-size bars plus 1-2 extra crushed candies for optional garnish
  • 10 ounces chocolate flavored almond bark, divide 8 ounces and 2 ounces

Instructions

  • Add the creamy peanut butter, butter, and vanilla to a medium-sized mixing bowl (2-3 quarts) and use a handheld mixer on medium-high speed to beat together until smooth, about 1 minute.
  • Lower the mixer speed to medium-low, add the powdered sugar, graham cracker crumbs, and ½ cup crushed Butterfingers. Mix for 1½-2 minutes or until the mixture is well combined.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Use a 1-tablespoon cookie scoop to scoop the Butterfinger mixture. (I did a heaping tablespoon.) Roll the scooped mixture into a nice round ball and place it on the lined baking sheet. Repeat the process (You may be able to get a few more if you do smaller scoops). Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  • Add the 8 ounces of almond bark to a microwave-safe shallow bowl. Heat in the microwave at full power for 45 seconds, stir and continue heating in 30-second intervals until the almond bark is melted and smooth.
  • Remove the baking sheet from the refrigerator, and roll the Butterfinger balls, one at a time, in the melted almond bark until completely coated. Use a small spoon or fork to gently remove the coated balls from the chocolate. Repeat for the remaining balls. (You can also use a candy dipping scoop)
  • Add the remaining 2 ounces of almond bark to a small microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the almond bark is melted and smooth. You can either use a candy-drizzling spoon, a fork, or a piping bag with a tiny slit to drizzle the tops of each Butterfinger ball. Sprinkle a bit of the extra crushed Butterfinger bars over the top of the drizzle. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

Notes

  • If you need to make more than 28 Butter finger balls, you can make each ball a bit smaller, or use a small cookie scoop. You may need a bit more melted chocolate to cover additional balls.
  • Using a portion scoop or measuring spoon helps ensure your Butterfinger truffles are all uniform in size.
  • It’s always a good idea to use the package instructions for melting your specific almond bark or other melting chocolate.
  • To make Buckeye Butterfinger Balls, make sure to leave a circle on each of the Butterfinger Balls that is uncoated with chocolate, so it looks like a Buckeye.
