A Magical Christmas Party + Chocolate Chip Cheesecake Bars

By  |

Get ready to celebrate the magic of Christmas with Santa Bruce and a yummy treat: chocolate chip cheesecake bars!

I’m excited to partner with Disney Books to bring you these ideas.

You guys, I love Christmas.

Love, love, love!

Growing up, the holidays were always a time filled with joy and cheer. I have so many great memories of family time spent together and traditions that we did. As a result, it’s still a favorite for me that I look forward to all year.

I’ve always loved every element: the splendor, the twinkling lights, the special goodies, the surprise gifts —  and of course, and all the timeless traditions.

Since I’ve always had such big feels for Christmas, I didn’t think it was possible to love it any more than I already did… and then I had my own two boys.

Experiencing the holiday season through their eyes adds a whole new element of magic.

Not only do I enjoy sharing my own childhood traditions with them, we’ve also started several of our own traditions that we look forward to as a family.

Over the past few years, one of my favorite new traditions we implemented is hosting a kid’s Christmas party in our home.

Everyone has a fabulous time during the event and I love looking back at the photos to see how everyone has grown from year to year. And all the new additions!

It’s a great way to slow down and enjoy the magic of Christmas with your kids. I keep things simple so that I can enjoy the event instead of stressing. From decorations to treats to activities, simple is the name of the game. But that doesn’t mean sacrificing a lovely time!

Want to start this special tradition with your own gang? I’m going to share my tips with you!

Santa Bruce Book

I was inspired this year by the release of Ryan T. Higgins latest book: Santa Bruce.

If you haven’t yet read any of the Mother Bruce series, I suggest you change that ASAP! The entire series is extremely amusing for both kids and adults.

I knew the whole crew would get a kick out of the book and I couldn’t wait to share it with them.

After becoming the victim of mistaken identity, Bruce finds the whole forest lining up to give him their Christmas wishlists. Hilarity ensues and giggles will abound as kids (and parents!) enjoy this amazing story about this bear who just can’t catch a break.

For our shindig, I took over the boy’s playroom to create our Santa Bruce inspired Christmas party.

I covered the table with brown butcher paper. I love the look of it, plus it makes clean up such a breeze.

I used simple, white paper plates. I also had disposable white cups for the kid’s hot chocolate.

Each place setting had stickers so the kids could decorate their hot chocolate cups to their liking.

Kid's Christmas Party Table

I found some red and black buffalo check fabric that I had cut into napkins.

I kept the table decor simple with small pine cones and mini trees wrapped in burlap.

At the party food table, I used black and white buffalo check fabric, gingerbread house cut outs, simple white trees and a Santa Bruce ornament plus the book.

Santa Bruce Activity Sheets

Once the guests arrived, they got busy with some Santa Bruce activity sheets. They also each got their own Santa hat to wear.

I laid crayons out on the table so kid’s could color, complete the maze and draw their own Christmas wish list.

Once they were done, it was time for them to decorate their hot chocolate cups with the stickers.

When the cups were complete, the kids were able to get their drinks and choose their additions: mini marshmallows, chocolate chips and peppermint chips.

They could also nosh on a delicious chocolate cheesecake bar — more on that in a moment!

Reading Santa Bruce

The oldest boy volunteered to be our reader this year.

That’s another Christmas party tradition: reading a Christmas book.

I knew the kids would get a big kick out of Santa Bruce and I was right! It was an instant hit.

After snacking and reading, there was a gift exchange. We set a $5 limit to keep things fair. It’s always fun to watch the kid’s faces while they’re opening their pick.

Now, I promised you the chocolate chip cheesecake bars recipe, so I’m going to deliver!

This easy, homemade dessert recipe is the best. I’ve seen variations of these squares on Pinterest before and decided to try my hand at them. I’m glad I did, because they became a simple favorite!
