Made with ingredients that are safe for dogs to consume, this icy delight offers a refreshing way to cool off on a hot day.

You’ll need:

  • 3 bananas, chopped into 1-inch pieces and frozen
  • ½ cup of creamy peanut butter (Xylitol Free)
  • 2 teaspoons of maple syrup (Xylitol Free)
  • ½ cup of lactose-free half and half

PRO TIP:

The ice cream you and I enjoy as humans is not safe for dogs. You have to be aware of digestive issues that your pup may suffer from if it consumes milk or dairy products. Using ingredients that are lactose-free will avoid any issues that your dog may have.

Substitutions And Additions

FRUIT: Any fruit that your dog loves can be turned into a frozen treat, even vegetables like carrots or pumpkin puree. If it is safe for your pup to eat it, you can make it into homemade ice cream treats.

OTHER INGREDIENTS: The only limit is your imagination. Think of all the vegetables and even meat that your furry friend loves. You can make this dog ice cream recipe with fresh ingredients from cheese to chicken. Just make sure it is on the list of foods that are safe for dogs.

SWEETENERS: Don’t use any substitution for the sweetener if it contains Xylitol.

DAIRY: You can substitute plain yogurt if your dog doesn’t have issues with dairy.

How To Make This Dog Ice Cream Recipe

Whip up this dog ice cream in the food processor and spread it in a loaf pan to freeze before serving it to your favorite furry friend.

STEP ONE: Cut the bananas into 1-inch pieces and put them into a Ziploc bag, and lay flat, trying to keep the banana pieces separate. Freeze for 2 to 3 hours until the banana is solid.

STEP TWO: Once the bananas are solidly frozen, remove them from the Ziploc bag and put them into the food processor or blender. Then add the peanut butter, maple syrup, and lactose-free half and half. Blend this until smooth.

OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS

The frozen bananas may clump together in your food processor so you can process them for about 20 to 30 seconds and then stir and break up the banana pieces, repeating 2 to 3 times. Then you can process until smooth as the bananas soften and don’t clump together.

STEP THREE: Take a loaf pan and pour the mixture into the pan. You could also use ice cube trays to make individual portions.

STEP FOUR: Freeze the ice cream mixture for at least one hour or until solid.

PRO TIP:

We suggest for ease of use to let the ice cream freeze to soft serve, or freeze until hard and then let soften just a bit. Then scoop appropriate size scoops for your dog onto a small baking sheet. Place that baking sheet back in the freezer.

Once those scoops have frozen, place them in a Ziploc bag and take one out the next time you are ready to give it to the dog. Otherwise, you have to keep refreezing the whole pan of ice cream, thawing, scooping, and repeating.

STEP FIVE: Serve up and watch your furry best friend enjoy his or her doggy ice cream.

Hi – Iโ€™m Oliver the cavalier King Charles spaniel! My mom makes this for me and my friends – without the maple syrup(โ€˜cause Iโ€™m sweet enough!) and she uses goat Kefir as its lactose free and has good stuff for my tummy. She freezes it in moulds to make it earlier to serve. She even used it to make doggy ice cream sandwiches for my birthday party ! Yum!!!!
