Butterbeer Jello Shots Ingredients
You’ll need:
- 1 cup of cream soda
- 2 (0.25-ounce) unflavored gelatin pouches
- ¾ cup of butterscotch schnapps
- ¼ cup of vanilla vodka
- 1 teaspoon of butter-flavored extract
- ¼ cup of gold colored sugar sprinkles
- ¼ cup of thick jarred caramel topping
- Squirt whipped topping for garnish
- ¼ cup of caramel drizzle in a squirt bottle, like Ghirardelli caramel coffee topping
- 12 (2-ounce) plastic shot glasses
PRO TIP:
Different stores carry different sized plastic shot glasses, ranging from 1.5 ounces to 2.5 ounces. Use what you can find, and just know that this recipe will make more or less jello shots depending on the size of your disposable shot glasses.
Substitutions And Additions
VODKA: If you already have an unflavored vodka, you can substitute it for the vanilla vodka.
Just add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, along with the butter-flavored extract, to your liquids.
SPRINKLES: If you can not find the gold sugar sprinkles for this butterbeer shot recipe, you can add one to two drops of gold or yellow food coloring to ¼ cup large grain sanding sugar, mix well, and you will have created your own gold sugar sprinkles.
Food-grade GEL colorings work best. I like to use the Americolor brand.
How To Make This Butterbeer Jello Shots Recipe

This recipe makes 12 shots. If you are making these for a party and need more, you can easily double the recipe.
STEP ONE: Pour soda into a small saucepan, then sprinkle both envelopes of plain gelatin evenly over the top.
Swirl the gelatin around so that it gets absorbed by the cream soda. Let it sit for five minutes to allow the gelatin to bloom.
STEP TWO: Set out your plastic shot glasses onto a small rimmed tray. This makes it easy to transport your filled shot glasses to the refrigerator. Set aside.
STEP THREE: Once your gelatin has bloomed in the cream soda, turn on the saucepan to medium heat and gently heat up your cream soda for three minutes or until the gelatin is completely dissolved.
Do not boil it. Make sure to stir it well. Turn off the heat and add the ¾ cup of butterscotch schnapps, ¼ cup vodka, and the butter-flavored extract. Stir well.
PRO TIP:
Do not allow this mixture to boil!
STEP FOUR: Transfer your liquids carefully from the saucepan to a large glass measuring cup with a handle and pourable spout.
This makes filling the small shot glasses much easier.
STEP FIVE: Fill each of your shot glasses, leaving a ¼ inch at the top so once your jello shots set up, you can rim your glasses with the garnish.
Place your tray of filled shot glasses into the refrigerator for two hours or up to overnight to firm up.
STEP SIX: In a small, shallow dish, pour in your gold sugar sprinkles. In a separate small bowl, place your thick jarred caramel sauce.
You will first dip the top rim of your jello shot into the thick caramel, then into the gold sugar sprinkles. Repeat with the remaining jello shot glasses.
STEP SEVEN: Squirt the whipped cream onto each jello shot, then drizzle with the squirt caramel topping. You can add extra sugar sprinkles to the top if desired.

Wait until just before you are ready to serve the shots to top with the whipped cream and caramel topping.
