Spicy Sausage Breakfast Sandwich with Chipotle Gravy

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Jimmy Dean®. All opinions are entirely my own.

Since we’ve been in the “we’re moving-upheaval” mode, I haven’t had as much time in the kitchen as usual. Confession: I miss it. There is something so satisfying about creating a meal for your loved ones and gathering around the table. Conversation and laughter seems multiplied when you can linger over food. Haven’t you ever noticed how focusing on eating together seems to make stress and outside aggravations evaporate?

Easy Sausage Smashed Burger Recipe

I decided to capitalize on kitchen time when I was given the opportunity to blog about Jimmy Dean® Roll Sausage from Meijer. The result? A couple of excellent meals and a piece of normalcy. I highly recommend the whole delicious experience! Sausage is good for breakfast but it’s great for other times of the day, too.

Hot Jimmy Dean Sausage

There are three Jimmy Dean® Roll Sausage flavors to choose: Regular/Original; Country Mild; Hot. I can now tell you that no matter which one you choose, the sausage adds delicious flavor to spice up a meal. The savory blend of seasonings tastes great. Satisfied stomachs produce happy faces!

Jimmy Dean Sausage

This trendy burger recipe seems like something from a restaurant. Caramelized onions smashed together in a skillet or char-grilled and topped with jarlsberg cheese is layered between brioche bread, charred tomato, pickled cukes, shaved Brussel sprouts and garlic mayonnaise. Yum!

Finish with the shredded cheese and let melt before removing from the skillet. You can cook them all in the same skillet or two at a time. Layer the burger between toasted bread with tomatoes, pickles and slaw. Enjoy!

Instructions
  1. SAUSAGE SMASHED BURGER

  3. Combine Brussels sprouts, mayonnaise and garlic paste in a mixing bowl; keep refrigerated until use.
  4. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium. Add onions, butter and cook on medium-low heat for 30 minutes, stirring often until onions are tender. Drain and reserve excess butter to toast bread slices, refrigerate onions until cooled.
  5. Heat 1 tablespoon of reserved onion butter in the same skillet over medium. Toast 2 slices of bread at a time until desired doneness, repeat with remaining ingredients and set aside.
  6. In the same skillet, heat the tomato slices until a slight charring occurs, set aside.
  7. Combine the sausage and caramelized onions together in a mixing bowl. Divide the sausage mix into 4 equal parts and roll into individual ball-shapes. Using the same skillet, smash the sausage into the skillet with a flat spatula until you have your desired thickness. Cook over medium heat for 12-15 minutes or until the natural juices run clear. Finish with the shredded cheese and let melt before removing from the skillet. You can cook them all in the same skillet or two at a time. Layer the burger between toasted bread with tomatoes, pickles and slaw. Enjoy!

  9. Divide sausage into 4-6 equal pieces (depending on size and thickness you like your sausage patties). Press into round patties.
  10. Cook over medium low heat, careful not to burn, and cook 3-5 minutes on each side until meat reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees.
  11. Remove patties from pan and set on a paper towel to drain off some of the fat.
  12. Turn burner to low heat and whisk flour in pan. Slowly add milk, salt and pepper. Whisk continuously until lumps have dissolved and gravy has thickened. Stir in adobo sauce. Start with 1 tablespoon and add more to your liking.
  13. Slice biscuit in half, top with sausage, egg and gravy on top.
