Easy Homemade Cat Treats

By  |

These delicious and easy homemade cat treats are a great way to say, “I love you” to your favorite feline!

Our black kitty Linus joined our circus a little over 10 years ago.

How time flies when you’re busy and having fun!

Best Homemade Cat Treats

I’m happy to bring you the best cat treats in partnership with Mirum.

As a kitten, he was quite the little stinker. In his older age though, he’s mellowed out quite a bit.

I think he’s just about the best cat ever if I’m being honest.

He’s cuddly and sweet and never nips or swats his paws at the kids, even when they’re being rambunctious.

When my oldest son Jorryn was young, he would carry Linus around the house like a sack of potatoes over his shoulder.

Linus was always very cooperative and let him do it, which always made me giggle to watch them.

These days, Jorryn doesn’t lug him around too much, but Linus still often seeks out his oldest buddy for a snuggle when he’s ready for a nap.

Alastor

Two years ago, a second kitten entered our lives, Alastor Moody. Linus wasn’t a fan at first, but after a few days they warmed up to each other and have been buddies ever since.

Even when Alastor is particularly naughty and pesters Linus. Which as kittens do, is often.

Our circus gained another member a few weeks ago: our new dog Bayleigh joined the ring.

The first few days, Linus was not pleased.

We finally made progress once he would stay in the same room as Bayleigh and they could scope each other out. Slowly but surely, everyone is finding a new normal and starting to get along.

To reward Linus for always being such a good fur baby, I started researching homemade cat treat recipes. I like experimenting in the kitchen so I thought, “why not make your own cat treats… can’t be too difficult”.

Healthy Cat Treats

I’m glad I did — I think these crunchy homemade cat treats turned out good.

Linus seems to agree, so I think it’s a win!

Any time I make a new recipe from scratch — whether for human or pet — I like to research ahead of time and experiment a little as I go. I always tweak my recipes quite a bit until I find just what I like.

There are lots of cat treat recipes with both chicken or fish.

I like that these are super cute little fish and that they’re baked. So simple and fun!

Ingredients for Cat Treats

Before getting started in the kitchen, I headed to the One Stop Cat Shop at Walmart.

It’s my go-to place for all things cat related including food, treats and litter. They make it easy to stock up on our essentials while getting a great value.

Right now, you can earn special Shopkick offers on participating Purina brands at Walmart.

I decided to make these healthy cat treats using the Purina wet food I picked up while shopping.

Normally, we’re a wet food household for our cats. It’s easy for them to chew and helps keep them hydrated. Our vet also recommended we use wet food because of urinary tract issues.

But occasionally the guys like a crunchy treat, like the cat snacks I’m sharing with you today.

Be sure to talk to your vet about what’s a good option for your family!

While shopping, I picked up everything I would need for the cat treats. There are only three ingredients, so it’s super easy!

Fancy Feast Wet Cat Food

You’ll need an egg, a cup of flour and a 3 ounce can of Fancy Feast Seafood Classic Pate.

If your cat prefers chicken for their snacks, you can certainly substitute a different flavor.

How to Make Cat Treats

Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees.

In a medium bowl, whisk egg.

In between two pieces of parchment paper, roll dough in to 1/4” thickness. Use a mini cookie cutter to create small treats.

Bake for 10 minutes.

Store in an air tight container for up to two weeks.

This yielded about 85 pieces for me or 1.5 cups.

Linus seems to be feeling the love, which makes me happy because he’s my first fur baby love.

I hope you make these cat treats for your own cat soon — and that they love them!
