- 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
- 2 (8-ounce) cans of refrigerated crescent roll dough sheets

Substitutions And Additions
CHEESE: You can substitute cheddar cheese with your favorite shredded cheese, such as mozzarella, Monterey Jack, or Colby.
PEPPERS: If you have a different color of peppers on hand, they will work just as well. Yellow, orange, or red bell pepper will all add color to your dish.
MEAT: Ground pork, ground chicken, or ground turkey would also be tasty in this easy recipe.
SPICE: If you want a little added kick to your casserole, you can add ¼ teaspoon of red pepper flakes to the spice mixture.
How To Make This Sloppy Joe Bake Recipe
STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a 9×13-inch casserole dish with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
STEP TWO: In a 12-inch large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef just until no longer pink. Drain any excess grease.
OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS
For an even quicker cooking time, ground beef can be cooked ahead of time. Brown ground beef in a large skillet and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to a month.
STEP THREE: Add the diced onion, green pepper, chili powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir and cook for an additional 5 minutes until the onion is translucent.
STEP FOUR: Add the tomato sauce, tomato paste, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce to the meat mixture. Stir to combine and allow to simmer uncovered for 15 minutes.
STEP FIVE: Open the crescent roll cans and carefully spread out the dough. Pinch together the seams and gently roll the dough with a rolling pin until you have two sheets of dough approximately 9×13 inches in size.
STEP SIX: Place one of the dough sheets in the bottom of the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly and pushing it up the sides of the dish a little bit.
Bake for 7 minutes until the dough begins to turn a light golden color.
PRO TIP:
You might be tempted to forgo pre-baking the bottom crescent dough, but don’t skip this step.
If you do, the crescent dough on the bottom will not cook fully in the time it takes the top to bake.
STEP SEVEN: Spoon the sloppy Joe mixture in an even layer in the baking dish on top of the baked crescent roll dough.
Sprinkle cheese over top of the ground beef mixture.
STEP EIGHT: Lay the second dough sheet on top of the cheese layer, stretching it to the edges of the baking dish.
PRO TIP:
Don’t worry about your crescent dough laying perfectly; it will bake up just fine even if it’s a bit uneven.
STEP NINE: Brush the milk over the top of the crescent dough and sprinkle with the sesame seeds.
STEP TEN: Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the dough is golden brown.
STEP ELEVEN: Slice into squares and serve.
