For the cake

  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup flour
  • cup sugar
  • 8 tablespoons butter, room temperature
  • cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

For the frosting

  • 2 cups icing powdered sugar
  • 8 tablespoons butter, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • teaspoon salt


For the Cake

  • Preheat your air fryer to 320°F.
  • Mix the cake ingredients with a hand mixer on low speed.
  • Pour the cake batter into the oven attachment of the air fryer that has been sprayed with non-stick spray.
  • Place in the air fryer basket and slide into air fryer.
  • Set timer to 25 minutes.
  • Once timer rings, insert use toothpick to see if cake is done. If it does not spring back when touched, cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Cool cake on a wire rack.
  • Once your cake has cooled, ice with frosting.

For the Frosting

  • Combine frosting ingredients with a mixer on low speed until well blended.
  • Spread frosting over cooled cake.
  • Slice and serve.


  • Even if your cake pan is coated, it is still a good idea to spray it with cooking spray before you pour batter into it.
  • Make sure to check your air fryer manual for time guidelines for your specific model as times and temperatures vary depending on the type of air fryer you have.
  • Keep a close eye on the cake. Since the air fryer cooks from the top, you don’t want a burnt top of your cake.
