29ouncestomato purée
6ouncestomato paste
1tablespoonfresh minced garlic
1tablespoongranulated sugar
1tablespoononion powder
2teaspoonsItalian seasoning
1½teaspoonskosher salt
1teaspoondried oregano
1teaspoondried basil
1teaspoonfresh cracked black pepper
¼teaspoonred pepper flakes
2whole bay leaves
Instructions
In a 3 to 4-quart saucepan over medium heat, whisk the tomato puree and tomato paste until smooth.
Add the minced garlic, sugar, onion powder, Italian seasoning, kosher salt, oregano, basil, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and whole bay leaves. Stir well to combine.
Allow the pizza sauce to come to a very low boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove from the heat. Remove the bay leaves.
Spoon the pizza sauce into 2-pint size canning jars. Allow the sauce to cool slightly without lids.
Once cooled, place lids onto the jars and store in the refrigerator until ready to use.
Notes
Make sure you are buying tomato purée rather than tomato sauce for this recipe. The tomato purée will give you a more flavorful pizza sauce.
This perfect sauce freezes really well, so you could make a big batch and freeze the extras for later.
You can add up to 2 extra tablespoons of fresh minced garlic for a stronger garlic flavor.
