Notes
The gingerbread syrup can be found where other coffee, or drink, flavorings are carried in your grocery store. The gingerbread flavor is more readily available during the winter holiday season. You can find it year round at online retailers such as Amazon. Trani brand is a well known brand however, other brands do make gingerbread syrup. Be sure to choose one that is meant for drink flavoring. Do not use an extract made for baking in this recipe.
You can garnish your gingerbread cocktail with a homemade sweetened whipped cream, whipped to soft peaks, if you prefer not to use a store bought version that comes in a tub, or squirt canister.
We suggest using a good quality vanilla ice cream as it adds to the rich and creamy texture of the cocktail as well as adding a subtle vanilla flavor to balance the spices of the gingerbread syrup.
If you can not find the gingerbread candy toppers to use as decoration, you can certainly omit them. However, a small gingerbread man cookie will also be a great substitution for a decorative garnish for your cocktail.
