Ingredients
16ouncesFrench bread loaf
1cupsalted butter,softened
½teaspoonsea salt
2 to 3tablespoonsgarlic,freshly minced
1teaspoondried parsley,or 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, minced (plus more for garnish)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 425°F.
Slice loaf of French bread in half lengthwise.
Stir together the softened butter, sea salt, minced garlic, and parsley.
Use a spatula to spread half of the butter mixture onto the bread loaf. Place the two halves of the bread together. Wrap tightly with aluminum foil and place in the oven to bake for 30 minutes.
While the bread is heating, melt the remaining butter mixture in a small saucepan until the garlic is fragrant about 2 to 3 minutes.
After 30 minutes, unwrap the bread to make sure the butter is melted and the bread is hot all the way through.
Brush or drizzle melted butter mixture over the toasted bread for extra garlic butter.
Sprinkle additional minced parsley over the bread if desired.
Notes
Raw garlic can be sharp and bitter. Keeping the bread wrapped in foil and heating slowly gives the garlic some time to cook in the oven, leaving it with a mellower flavor. The stovetop saute also helps toast the garlic a bit.
Watch the bread carefully when under the broiler - it can go from light to burnt to a crisp very quickly.
This is a heavily buttered garlic bread. You, of course, can half the amount of butter and/or garlic. The extra drizzle makes for indulgent, buttery deliciousness, kind of like adding extra extra butter on your movie popcorn.
If you’d like to crisp or toast the top of the bread a bit, place the two halves face up on a baking sheet. Broil for 2 to 3 minutes or until toasted.
