Ingredients
1cupgranulated sugar
¼cupcocoa powder,Hershey’s Special Dark Cocoa
3tablespoonsall-purpose flour
3tablespoonssalted butter,room temperature
2cupswhole milk
1½teaspoonsvanilla extract
Instructions
In a small bowl, stir together the granulated sugar, cocoa powder, and all-purpose flour. Set aside.
In a medium saucepan on medium heat, melt the butter.
Whisk the dry ingredients into the butter until all of the melted butter has been absorbed by the flour mixture.
While whisking constantly, slowly pour the milk into the chocolate mixture. Keep whisking until the mixture is smooth and no lumps remain.
Cook on medium-high heat for 6 to 8 minutes or until your gravy has thickened. Be sure to whisk constantly to prevent burning the chocolate gravy and to ensure that your chocolate gravy is nice and smooth. If your chocolate gravy is bubbling too heavily, you can reduce the heat to medium.
Remove from the heat and whisk in the vanilla extract.
Notes
Use good-quality baking cocoa powder for this sweet gravy recipe. This is a very simple recipe, so the better the quality cocoa powder, the better the flavor of your gravy.
This gravy can be made ahead of time, stored in the fridge, and reheated on the stove over medium-low heat.
You will want to serve the chocolate gravy over a hot butter biscuit while it is still warm.
