1teaspoonvegetable or canola oil
1poundground beef
1smallyellow onion,diced
1teaspoonsea salt
½teaspoonpepper
2 to 3clovesgarlic,minced
1teaspoonItalian seasoning
1cupricotta
2cupsmozzarella cheese,divided in half
1cupparmesan cheese,divided in half
24ouncesmarinara sauce
Instructions
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the bowtie pasta until al dente or desired tenderness. Drain and toss with a drizzle of oil. Set aside.
In a large skillet, saute ground beef, onion, salt, and pepper over medium heat until the meat is cooked through and the onion is translucent. Add in garlic and Italian seasoning and saute 1 minute longer.
Add the ricotta, 1 cup of mozzarella, and ½ cup parmesan cheese to the meat mixture and stir to combine.
Pour marinara sauce into the skillet and bring to a simmer.
Stir bowtie pasta into the meat sauce.
Top with the remaining cheese and heat until the cheese is melted. Or place under the broiler in the oven for a few minutes to melt the cheese.
Serve hot.
Notes
Tossing the pasta with a bit of oil will prevent it from sticking together. Keep the pasta warm so the skillet stays hot once you stir it in.
Dice the onion into very small pieces so that it will cook in the same amount of time that the beef browns. The onion won’t cook further once we add the other ingredients, so be sure it is cooked all the way through.
Broiling at the end isn’t necessary, but it’s a quick way to melt the cheese on top without scorching the pasta in the bottom of the skillet.
