Ingredients
1large or medium and smallsweet yellow onion, about 10 ounces or 290 grams
1½tablespoonsolive oil,extra virgin
¾teaspoononion powder
¼teaspoonkosher salt
¼teaspoonfresh cracked black pepper
Instructions
Remove the outer skin of the onion. Carefully use a sharp kitchen knife to slice off the top and bottom of the onion.
Slice the onion in half. Place the flat part of the onion half on the cutting board. Slice the onion between ¼ and ½-inch slices. (You don’t want to slice the onion too thin. I was able to get about 3 cups of raw onion slices.)
Add the sliced onion to a medium-sized mixing bowl (2-3 quarts). Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil over the onion. You can use tongs or your hands to toss the onion and oil to coat the sliced onion completely. Be sure to separate the onion petals while tossing in the oil.
Sprinkle the onion powder, kosher salt, and cracked pepper. Toss to coat the onion slices completely.
Depending on what brand of air fryer you have will depend on if you need to preheat your air fryer. (I have a Cosori 6.8 quart that does not require preheating. You will need to check yours.)
Add your onion slices to your air fryer basket. (You can line your basket with parchment paper. Just remember, do not preheat the basket with the parchment paper lining. It is a fire hazard.) Spread the seasoned onion slices in a single layer in the basket. If you have a smaller basket, you will need to cook your onions in batches. Be sure the onions are not overcrowded. Cook the onions for 10 to 12 minutes at 375°F. You will need to flip/stir the onions at 5 to 6 minutes to ensure the onion cooks evenly. Once the onions are cooked, remove the onions from the air fryer. You can serve the onions while hot.
Notes
Make sure to check your air fryer manual for cooking time guidelines for your specific model, as times and temperatures vary depending on the type of air fryer you have.
When drizzling the olive oil, make sure each onion slice is well-coated. This helps in achieving that desirable crispy texture.
If your air fryer does not have the option to cook at 375°F, you can choose 380°F; just keep a close eye on your onions.
