Ingredients
1poundskirt steak, thinly sliced (1½ to 2 inch long strips, approximately ¼ inch thick)
3cupsfresh broccoli florets, cut into bite size pieces (approximately 1 to 1½ inches)
2tablespoonscanola oil
⅓cupwater
⅓cupsoy sauce
2tablespoonslight brown sugar
1tablespoonMirin sweet cooking rice wine
1teaspoongrated garlic
1teaspoongrated ginger
1teaspoonsesame oil
⅛teaspoonred pepper flakes
1tablespooncornstarch
½teaspoonsesame seeds,optional garnish
Instructions
Preheat the air fryer to 375* F for 5 minutes. Lightly spray the inside of the air fryer basket with non-aerosol cooking spray. Be sure that your cooking spray oil does not contain propellants as they can cause a coating to form on the basket.
Add the sliced skirt steak in an even layer in the preheated basket of the air fryer. Air fry for 8-10 minutes or until the meat is cooked through and browned. Remove the cooked steak from the air fryer, place into a large bowl and set aside.
Add the broccoli florets to a medium bowl with the canola oil. Toss the broccoli florets in the oil to coat.
After the skirt steak is cooked and removed, add the oil coated broccoli to the air fryer basket and cook for 6-8 minutes or until the broccoli is tender but still retains a bright green color. Once cooked, add the broccoli to the bowl of cooked steak.
While the broccoli is cooking in the air fryer you will make the sauce by adding to a microwave safe small mixing bowl the water, soy sauce, light brown sugar, mirin sweet cooking wine, grated garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, red pepper flakes and cornstarch. Whisk until fully combined and there are no lumps of cornstarch remaining.
Heat the sauce in the microwave, on high heat, for 1 minute, whisk and heat for an additional 30 seconds to 1 minute or until the sauce is thick and glossy. Be sure to whisk well between each heating.
Pour the sauce into the bowl over the air fried beef and broccoli. Gently toss to coat with the sauce.
Garnish with the sesame seeds and serve.
Notes
When slicing your skirt steak, be sure to use a really sharp knife and slice against the grain of the beef. This will help to ensure that your beef is tender once it's been air-fried.
To better care for your air fryer and air fryer basket, make sure you use a nonaerosol cooking spray that doesn't contain propellants, as they can cause a coating to form on the basket.
Be sure you leave room between your pieces of steak in the air fryer. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook in batches.
