American Chop Suey

Our easy American chop suey is hearty ground beef, tomatoes, and noodles are simmered together for this classic comfort food dish that will have everyone going back for seconds.

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 tbsp garlic minced
  • 1 large yellow onion finely diced
  • 3 cups water
  • 3 beef bouillon cubes
  • 30 ounces tomato sauce
  • 30 ounces petite diced tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon Italian Seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon seasoned salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 cups large elbow macaroni uncooked
  • 2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 1 cup Monterey Jack Cheese shredded
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded


  • In a dutch oven over medium heat add ground beef. Cook until no longer pink. Drain grease and return to the stovetop. Add onions and garlic. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes or until onions are soft.
  • Add water, beef bouillon, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, seasoned salt, ground black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and bay leaves. Stir to combine. Turn heat to low, cover and let simmer for 20 minutes.
  • Remove cover and stir. Add elbow macaroni and stir well. Cover and allow to simmer on low for an additional 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Once the pasta is cooked remove the bay leaves.
  • Add Monterey Jack cheese and stir.
  • Sprinkle cheddar cheese over the top and allow it to melt.
  • Serve and enjoy!
