  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 1 large yellow onion, finely diced
  • 3 cups water
  • 3 beef bouillon cubes
  • 30 ounces tomato sauce
  • 30 ounces petite diced tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon seasoned salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 cups large elbow macaroni, uncooked
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 1 cup Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded

Instructions

  • In a Dutch oven over medium heat, add ground beef. Cook until no longer pink. Drain grease and return to the stovetop. Add the onions and garlic. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes or until onions are soft.
  • Add water, beef bouillon, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, seasoned salt, ground black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and bay leaves. Stir to combine. Turn the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 20 minutes.
  • Remove cover and stir. Add elbow macaroni and stir well. Cover and allow to simmer on low for an additional 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Once the pasta is cooked, remove the bay leaves.
  • Add Monterey Jack cheese and stir.
  • Sprinkle cheddar cheese over the top and allow it to melt.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • This recipe freezes really well. Make up a big batch and freeze the leftovers for another meal later.
  • You can cook ground beef ahead of time and store it in the fridge or freezer for use later. This would save extra time when you are making this recipe.
  • Make sure to note that you don’t have to cook the pasta separately. It will cook as it simmers away in the sauce.
