‘Tis a dark and gloomy scene that sets the stage for this Halloween party! Black gauze provides a perfect table backdrop. Spanish moss, skeleton keys, a dead rose and garlic bulbs add to the mysterious ambiance.
The formal calligraphy and lovely silver trays contrast very effectively with the frightful decorations. A woeful skeleton keeps company with ravens, a black pumpkin…and creepy body parts (cue ominous organ music).
Although there are several taste treats to tempt, at first glance you might want to pass it all up! The heart displayed in the apothecary jar looks menacing–but it’s just a fake heart floating in yellow water. And the eyeballs? Thankfully they’re fake too and just floating in red goo. The paper mache skulls have been gussied up for the party with gloss antique white spray paint. Powdered cinnamon was rubbed in every crack and crevice, especially by the eye and nose sockets and around the teeth. Doesn’t it make the skulls look…dried out?
The dessert table tempts (or not!) with Peanut Butter Geists (Nutter Butter cookies dipped in candy coating with chocolate chip eyes); Mummified Pretzels (drizzled with melted candy coating, red hot candy eyes, dotted with a black food coloring marker); Rest in Pieces (pretzel sticks with mini marshmallows, dipped in white chocolate); Re-Animated Marshmallows (green candy melt, dipped in black sanding sugar for Frankenstein hair); Staked Hearts (candied apples mounted on real tree sticks); and Gooey Brains Cupcakes (chocolate cupcakes with buttercream frosting which was colored with black food coloring and swirled to mimic grey matter).
After all those sweets, parents and kids alike would appreciate a drink of “Holy Water”.
If you want to partake of this most pagan of holidays, you’re sure to find dark ideas and treats to trick your imagination with this spook-tacular bash!
