Tips to make traveling with a child experiencing nighttime wetting easier.
We love taking autumn weekend jaunts. It’s worth a little travel to get the best color-changing views! When my boys were still in diapers, I used to hate leaving the convenience of home, but the wanderlust was lurking. Thankfully we’re past the diaper stage and I’ve come up with solutions for my little guys who are still managing nighttime wetting, so traveling is no longer a hassle.
There are a lot of fun, fall festival destinations! Besides food and music celebrations, antique markets, art fairs, and pumpkin festivals, we’ve found pig races, sheep riding, corn hole tournaments, and colonial re-enactments.
And we’ve discovered zoos are more enjoyable in autumn because it seems like the animals are more active in the slightly cooler weather.
When I’m prepping for a weekend trip, I always stuff a cooler with frozen juice, water, and snacks so we’re not constantly needing to stop. I make sure the boys’ tablets are charged so they can play games in the car, plus we have a small bin with crayons, paper, and a few small toys.
The first couple of times you take off it might take a little more planning but after that, even the kids know what to stick in an overnight bag.
Occasional nighttime wetting has been frustrating and sometimes embarrassing for my older son (my younger guy doesn’t seem to care yet!), but I know it’s just a developmental thing that will pass on its own as they grow and mature. There’s really no reason to stress about it because in fact, one in six children between the ages of 4 and 12 experience nighttime wetting!
So, I’ve reassured my oldest that lots of kids experience nighttime wetting and in the meantime, I buy discreet GoodNites NightTime Underwear. Totally makes sense that GoodNites is the #1 NightTime Protection Brand* – GoodNites has zoned protection and a variety of size availability, so they make all the difference for a restful night’s sleep at home or away.
You can stock up on GoodNites while you’re getting everything you need at Sam’s Club. All those great values leave you with enough money for more weekend getaways.
And if you don’t want to wait in line at the store, you can order online and have them shipped directly to your house with free shipping online – super convenient when you’re running around with kids and don’t have time to do a full shop!
Best of all though is that now through Sept 17, there’s an instant savings of $8 off any 2 Huggies, Pull-Ups, GoodNites and Wipes. So hurry and check out the Sam’s Club website so you can stock up, save AND get them delivered right to your door.
So, whether we are staying with family or landing in a hotel, I make sure to always:
- pack extra P.J.’s, (mostly for my son’s peace of mind)
- pack a stuffed animal or toy (to make them feel comfortable)
- pack GoodNites NightTime Underwear
- Try to maintain our regular nighttime routine
I know extra-busy days and fresh autumn air almost guarantee my sons will sleep deep so I do the usual gig of limiting liquids in the evening and remind the boys to go to the bathroom right before bed to empty bladder and bowels.
Sometimes, even the best days can seem a little stressful for kids when there’s a lot of activity. We still do our normal bedtime routine of stories and hugs and tucking the boys in with their favorite loveys to make sure they have a big dose of comfort at the end of a busy day.
I know some families don’t like to travel with young kids, but we’ve found crunching through autumn’s piles of leaves and noshing on gooey caramel apples are just the kind of fun adventures to build great family memories!
