The cute edible trees sit on top of crunchy oatmeal cookies.

These festive strawberries are coated with green candy, decorated with sprinkles, and topped with a star.

You’ll need:

  • 2 pounds of fresh strawberries (18 large strawberries plus extra just in case)
  • 2 (12-ounce) packages of dark green candy melts
  • 1 package of frosted oatmeal cookies (you’ll need 18 cookies)
  • ¼ cup of multi-colored nonpareils
  • 18 yellow star candies

Substitutions And Additions

COOKIES: Any cookie would work for the base of these adorable little Christmas trees. Pick gingersnaps, sugar cookies or Oreo cookies. Any cookie that you enjoy is a contender.

CANDY MELTS: Of course, green is the traditional color for these trees, but there is no reason to limit yourself.

You could also make snow-covered trees by using white chocolate melts.

Get wild and crazy, and use your imagination to pick any color you’d like for the candy melts.

You’ll find candy melts in the baking aisle at your grocery store. You can also find them in the baking supplies department of your local craft store.

MULTI-COLORED NONPAREILS: Get creative with your decorations by using different types of sugar sprinkles or edible glitter to achieve a festive look.

You can also consider crushed peppermint candies for a hint of minty freshness.

YELLOW STAR CANDIES: If you can’t find yellow star candies, you can use any other small, colorful candies or edible decorations to top your strawberry trees.

Miniature gumdrops, edible gold stars, or even tiny chocolate chips can add a playful touch.

FRESH STRAWBERRIES: While strawberries are the star of this recipe, you can explore other fruits for a unique twist.

Raspberries or blackberries can provide a different berry flavor, and pineapple chunks can offer a tropical flair.

Just be mindful of any variations in fruit size and adjust the amount of candy coating accordingly.

How To Make This Strawberry Christmas Tree Recipe

We’ll show you how easy it is to craft these fun treats for your next Christmas party with our step-by-step instructions.

STEP ONE: Rinse the strawberries and gently pat them dry.

Make a clean slice from the base of each strawberry to remove the stem and create a base for the bottom of the tree.

STEP TWO: Place the candy melts in the top pan of a double boiler. Heat over simmering water, stirring frequently, until the candy melts are smooth.

Remove from over the simmering water. Dry the bottom of the pan with a dishtowel.

OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS

Candy melts can be heated in the microwave as well. Heat in a microwave-safe small bowl in 15 to 30-second intervals, stirring well between.

Do not overheat, or they will seize up.

You can add a few drops of vegetable oil to the candy melts to help thin them out to the desired consistency.

It is critical that no water gets into the candy melts – they will seize up, and you will have to start over with a new package of candy melts.

STEP THREE: Use a toothpick or fork to dip the strawberry into the candy melt mixture. Tap off the excess candy from the strawberry.

STEP FOUR: Use a second fork to lift the strawberry from the dipping tool and onto the center of a cookie.

You can also place a small amount of the melted candy onto the center of the cookie before setting the cut side of the strawberry down.

PRO TIP:

We found it easiest to use a fork for dipping and transferring to the cookie base. The strawberries slipped off the toothpick too easily.

STEP FIVE: Sprinkle nonpareils over the dipped strawberry tree and place a candy star on top of the tree before the candy hardens.

Place the completed Christmas trees on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper while they harden.

PRO TIP:

Candy melts firm up quickly after coating the strawberries, especially if the strawberries are cold. Add the candy sprinkles and tree topper fast.

STEP SIX: Reheat the candy melts as needed to keep the mixture dippable.

As a delightful post-dinner treat, serve alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a dusting of powdered sugar

Storage Tips for Strawberry Trees

This cute and delightful treat should be eaten the same day for best results, preferably within a few hours.

Unfortunately, dipped strawberries do not keep well.

If the strawberries are not fully coated in candy, the strawberry juice will eventually seep down into the cookie, making it soggy.
