This grilled pineapple recipe is the perfect pairing of sweet, fresh pineapple grilled and served with ice cream — a favorite dessert!
If you’ve been around Spaceships and Laser Beams very long, you’ll know that I love pineapples.
Not only do I love the sweet flavor exploding on my tongue, I think they’re darling.
I’ve always thought they were tasty, but I really fell in love with them during a trip to Kauai.
I ate so.many.pineapples during that vacation.
I also got to visit a farm where they were grown. It was incredibly beautiful!
Now, my house is sprinkled with pineapple decor and I even have a pineapple tattoo on my right shoulder.
I take my pineapples very seriously.
I’m also a big, big fan of ice cream. I would even consider it a main food group. 😉
This delicious grilled pineapple dessert combines two of my favorite things into one stellar recipe that will leave your mouth watering for more.
Plus, it’s gorgeous. Look at those bright colors!
I think it’s an excellent summertime treat and I’m sure you’ll agree.
(I’m all about this Pineapple Dessert: Pina Colada Split as well! So good!)
During the summer, our family spends a lot of time outside.
Our backyard is a haven that we spend hours cocooned inside of. There is a play set, a mini pool and lots of grass to run wild on.
Not only do we play, we also do a lot of our meals in the backyard during the warm months.
That means almost everything we eat is cooked on the grill.
We enjoy the typical hamburgers, chicken and hot dogs… but we do dessert on the grill as well!
That’s how these pineapples on the grill happened.
Now it’s a treat that my boys ask for allllll the time. Their mama’s love of pineapple has passed down to them apparently.
It’s hard to beat that sweet, delicious flavor on your tongue, especially when paired with cold, creamy ice cream.
We love this easy recipe so much, we sometimes end up doing two pineapples!
You might be asking yourself, “how do you grill a pineapple”?
Allow me to tell you: it’s easy!
Preheat your grill to high heat and lightly oil the grate.
You’ll start by preparing your pineapple which means cutting off the skin, removing the core and slicing it.
How to Grill Pineapple
Once your grill and pineapple are both ready, pop your fresh pineapple slices on.
If you’re using a charcoal grill, you’ll do them on the opposite side of the charcoal.
How Long to Grill Pineapple
Cook for 1-2 minutes, then rotate and cook for another 1-2 minutes so you get those beautiful crisscross grill marks. Flip over and cook for 1-2 minutes, then rotate and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
You’ll want to be sure to watch closely so you don’t have anything burning.
Ingredients for Grilled Pineapple Sundaes
Aside from the pineapple, you’ll also need vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, graham cracker crumbs, cinnamon and Maraschino cherries.
You could also top with honey or add a little brown sugar to the pineapple rings to make a glaze.
My boys love helping me make the graham cracker crumbs. I always make sure to double bag the graham crackers before allowing them to crush just in case they’re too rough and the bag gets a whole.
I have them work on the graham crackers while I’m grilling so they stay away from the heat. They love being little helpers. 🙂
How to Make Grilled Pineapple Sundaes
Once your pineapple is grilled, remove and allow to cool slightly.
Then you’ll top with ice cream, graham cracker crumbs, caramel sauce, a sprinkle of cinnamon and top with a cherry. You’ll want to serve immediately!
Sometimes my boys convince me to add extra cherries on top for them.
