Around 11:30, I asked my three year old son, Zane, what he wanted for lunch. “Green noodles,” he replied. I was about to tell him that I couldn’t make green noodles happen when I realized I actually could! Not only was this easy lunch fun for the boys to help with, they happily ate every single bite.
Ingredients for green noodles:
- egg noodles
- green food coloring
- butter {optional}
- parmesan cheese {optional}
- salt & pepper {optional}
How to make green noodles:
- Pour water into a pot, enough to cover the noodles.
- Stir in several drops of green food coloring. I use Wilton brand and a little bit goes a long ways.
- Cover your pot and wait for water to boil.
- Once boiling, add your noodles. Be sure to stir after adding.
- As the noodles cook, they turn green from the absorbing the food coloring.
- Once they’re completely cooked, drain off the water and add some butter. I used about 1 tablespoon of butter for two cups of noodles.
- Stir in salt and pepper to taste and serve.
- My boys love their noodles topped with cheese. You could also add grilled chicken for some extra protein or top with spaghetti or alfredo sauce.
This makes a tasty and quick lunch when served with a glass of milk and a big bowl of fruit. All three boys marveled over the green color of the noodles. Not only did they enjoy eating it, they enjoyed watching it cook and change color as well.
