Almost all little boys feel the need for speed! What better way to satisfy this desire than with a Formula One style race car birthday party?

Paula, of Mulberry Paperie, designed the printable decorations and styled this high speed race car party for her son’s 4th birthday. Her son Mathias is obsessed with cars and enjoys watching Formula One, so this grand prix styled affair totally satisfied.

The decorations and race car inspired cake, cupcakes and desserts are impeccable! You’ll want to zoom in on the photos by Black ‘n Mint and Lace Photography for full impact!

Planning a high performance party requires an awesome pit crew. Paula’s been around the party planning track a few times, so she’s got the competitive edge and wonderful vendors that helped to execute one impressive party. I am floored by the printable designs she created which set the tone for one unforgettable event.

Let’s talk about the grand prix dessert table; I can just imagine party guests racing over to take in all of the colorful desserts and décor!

I adore the retro style “4th Annual Mathias Grand Prix” backdrop sign which effectively sets the theme and color palette for the party. The multi-colored tissue tassel garland really pops, doesn’t it?

The black and white striped tassels remind me of checkered racing flags. This checked pattern is used throughout the styling on cupcake wrappers, the table covering, the cake trim and on washi tape (Swig Shoppe) embellishments on dessert stands. This creates a nice continuity.

Paula carries the retro racing vibe throughout the styling with creative race car and interstate style toppers, food labels and creative signage like “pit stop” and “fuel up”. The details are clever and perfectly chosen to execute the theme.

Zooming in on some of the desserts reveals some pretty slick detail work. I never tire of looking at, or tasting, gorgeous desserts. Standing tall on the dessert table, heightened by a perfectly coordinating vintage trunk, is a beautiful cake by Le Sucre Cakes.

Notice the start line inspired “Happy Birthday” bunting and incredible fondant detailing. The car looks like it could cruise right off the cake! Coordinating cupcakes were also prepped and ready to roll out with hungry guests. Paula topped these cupcakes with printable logos from her collection.

Just in front of the cake, totally awesome race car helmet-inspired cake pops looked positioned for cruising. I love how they’re displayed in glass bottles. The party flags add a bit of whimsy and a fun, coordinated look.

Doesn’t the display of macaron “tires” by La Petite Sucre, paired with the perfectly decorated “grand prix” cookies by NatSweets Cookies, get your sweet tooth cravings soaring?

Stunning car-inspired “geared up” chocolate covered Oreos with incredible fondant embellishments, by Love and Sugar Kisses, rounded out the thrilling dessert spread. Well-chosen props like a retro gas pump and oil cans finished off the look.

Because Paula clearly can lap some of us in the details department, even wooden cutlery from her shop was decked out in tire tracks! Doesn’t the combination of cutlery and checked napkins look cool?

Thirsty racers could quench their thirst at a darling “fuel up” station where custom wrapped bottles of water and premium quality motor oil soda were on hand. Crazy cute details!

Paper straws in various colors and patterns were topped with fuel up flags for quick refreshing.

Guests enjoyed decorating wooden cars at the “body shop” and playing with their finished cars at the tracks. The pretend driver’s license, another printable item Paula created, was a big hit.

Paula had these items assembled in small clear boxes with custom wrapped mini candy bars. What awesome party favors that could be enjoyed both during and after the party.

Paula definitely has the formula down for an amazing boys race car birthday party. I’d say it was a strong start AND finish!
