My Sam is an imaginative little boy. Sometimes, when he doesnt know Im there, I just stop and listen to him pretending. He creates these elaborate universes, populated by his superhero toys. Listening to him is always good for clandestine laughter, but Im careful to never let on because I dont want to discourage his wild imagination. Im quite interested to see how his inventive way of thinking will play out. Hell be in first grade this yearlook out world!
Weve been doing some of the get-ready-for-school things. It really makes it feel like summer is over, even though we have a slice of August left. Sams school requires wearing uniforms, so we have that taken care of and we have some new crayons, markers and pencils. Sam has chosen a back pack and a new lunch boxIve learned thats a big deal to a first grader! Ive been thinking up new lunch and snack ideas. Has anyone else noticed a hungry child can become a grumpy child? Gotta keep that kid fueled so he can keep dreaming and learning!
I recently bought some Horizon Sandwich Crackers theyre a convenient snack that I feel good about giving Sam. I think its important to be aware of wholesome choices for whatever we put into our kidseven snacks. Horizon offers several options that are great for snacking or lunchtime, including Chocolate Snack Grahams and Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers. I used the Cheese Sandwich Crackers to make cute cucumber sandwichesits a great way to get kids interested in eating extra vegetables! Spinach leaves (sans stems) make the base. I used a cute shaped cookie cutter on slices of cucumber and topped them with the Horizon Cheese Sandwich Crackers. Easy and yummy.
I am imagining a terrific first grade experience for Sam this year. He is still imagining hes a superhero, saving the world. Sounds like a good reality to me.
