After seeing a picture of her husband’s first birthday, Vanessa, of Moondance Photography, began planning their son’s first birthday theme — a circus birthday party. Vanessa chose to execute her ideas at an outside venue, using a charming gazebo to display her decorations and dessert table. The birthday cake, decorations, party games, and the sunshine all serve as an enticing invitation for her guests.
- You’ll love this First Birthday Circus Party
Red and white striped bunting and a happy birthday banner signal that “this is the place” as soon as guests spy the gazebo. A cute ribbon-pull lion piñata serves as decoration until time for the younger guests to collect their goods. Isn’t the birthday cake sweet? It looks like a miniature carousel with its’ striped straw poles and circus animals. Clown cupcakes, rocket cake pops, and a colorful variety of giant suckers team with lots of candy treats.
Animal crackers in the snake charmer favor bags can be tucked in a pocket for a take-home eat. I like the inventive way Nessy used circus ride tickets to decorate some of the serving containers. Balloons, polka dots, and clown noses multiply the fun factor, too. Traditional circus food like hot dogs, pizza, and warm pretzels are served along with popcorn, cotton candy, and sweet treats. A miniature circus tent house and crawl tunnel (with a ball pit!) serve as more decoration and as a fun activity for the little Fox and his small revelers.
Another bright party idea is the cartoonish character poster. Guests were invited to choose and color a character. Each little character has a “bubble” or placard in which to leave messages for the birthday boy. Not only is this a fun party activity, but it can also serve as a piece of funky art long after the party. It must have been satisfying for Vanessa to see her party daydreams become a reality. Lots of color, fun and happy smiles are all proof that the planning was worth it!
