If you’re looking for an easy and tasty dessert to make on your next camping trip, look no further than campfire banana boats.

These delightful treats are a simple combination of ripe bananas and sweet toppings, all wrapped up in a foil packet and roasted over an open flame.

As the ingredients heat up, they meld together into a gooey, decadent mess that’s sure to please everyone around the campfire.

You’ll need:

PRO TIP:

We have provided three different ways to enjoy your delicious banana boats. Pick one or try all three!

S’mores:

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 6 tablespoons of mini marshmallows
  • 4 tablespoons of milk chocolate chips
  • 4 tablespoons of honey graham cereal (or broken pieces of graham crackers)

Strawberry Chocolate:

  • 2 bananas
  • 6 tablespoons of capped, chopped fresh strawberries
  • 4 tablespoons of mini marshmallows
  • 4 tablespoons of milk chocolate chips

Reese’s Cup:

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 6 tablespoons of mini marshmallows
  • 6 tablespoons of mini Reese’s cups

Substitutions And Additions

GRAHAM CRACKERS: You can substitute fun-shaped graham cracker cookies, like teddy grahams, for the plain graham crackers or cereal in the campfire s’mores banana boats recipe.

REESE’S CUPS: If you cannot find the tiny Reese peanut butter cups, you can chop up a regular peanut butter cup for each banana boat campfire snack.

FILLING: There are so many ingredients you can stuff into your banana boat campfire dessert. Peanut butter chips, butterscotch chips, semisweet chocolate chips, coconut flakes, or rainbow marshmallows are just a few ideas.

How To Make This Campfire Banana Boats Recipe

While your campfire is heating up, you can prepare your bananas. Follow our simple steps below to cut open the peel and stuff all kinds of decadent goodness into the bananas before cooking them.

OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS

You can pre-make the packets a day in advance and bring them to your campsite already prepared.

STEP ONE: Prepare your fire with either wood or charcoal. Let it burn down until ash gray with moderately hot coals but no big open flames. Prepare your grate to go over the fire by spraying it (away from the fire) with nonstick spray.

PRO TIP:

This recipe can also be made on the grill at home. Preheat the grill as usual and cook them as directed.

STEP TWO: Starting at the top of the unpeeled banana, carefully slice from the top of the banana to the bottom. Be careful not to pierce through the bottom layer of the skin.

STEP THREE: Gently pull the peel slightly open. Pry open the banana flesh. Repeat the steps for the remaining bananas.

STEP THREE: Evenly sprinkle 3 tablespoons of mini marshmallows over the top of the milk chocolate chips.

STEP FOUR: Wrap the banana in aluminum foil and set it aside. Repeat the steps for the second banana.

PRO TIP:

Non-stick Reynolds foil wrap works very well. It keeps the marshmallows from sticking to the tin foil.

Cooking Instructions

STEP ONE: Once all of the bananas have been filled and wrapped, evenly space the packets around the edge of the grill, not directly over any flame. Let cook for 5 minutes. Make sure to rotate the foil packets every couple of minutes since campfire heat can be quite uneven.

PRO TIP:

If you are cooking these at home on the barbecue, place the packets on the grill, close the lid and cook for 5 minutes.

STEP TWO: Remove the packets and allow them to cool for 3 to 5 minutes. Carefully open the packets and enjoy.

PRO TIP:
