Dino-mite is the best way to describe these budget-friendly dinosaur birthday party ideas. Some say theme parties on a budget are impossible but Julie, from Julie Ann Events (formerly A Reason to Get Together), scoffs at that notion. She pulled this adorable and creative party together for a six-year-old on a tight budget. Discover how Julie used items she had on hand to create “rawrsome” decorations. You’ll see a delicious-looking birthday cake, a dessert table, and super-fun party activities.

Julie laid the groundwork by rounding up decorations in browns and greens. A variety of dinosaurs found at the dollar store bring in plenty of prehistoric touches. We love her use of natural-looking items: wood stumps, fern, and tall grass.

Wooden crates and brown burlap make perfect accompaniments for a dinosaur-themed dessert table.

DIY paper decorations keep costs down. Using a paper cutting machine, Julie created dinosaur cutouts for the cupcakes, a topper for the cake (showing the guest of honor’s age), and letters for a dessert table bunting.

The dessert table has a simple, clean layout with a display of cupcakes and cookies. Julie even made the sugar cookies look like fossils with toy Dino footprints.

I love the uncomplicated dinosaur cupcake toppers she made as well as the paper flags.

The store-bought chocolate cake looks great displayed on a dinosaur-green cake stand, dressed up with the DIY topper.

Do you spot the chocolate eggs? We suspect dinosaur eggs.

Jars filled with green Jell-0 are paired with twine and wooden spoons—theme perfect and thoughtful.

Candy in colorful shades of green is displayed in apothecary jars. We’re pretty sure we spot a stegosaurus keeping watch nearby.

We love a good beverage station, and this one is so cute. Water bottles are wrapped in simple green labels. Mason jars are displayed with paper dinosaur-topped stir sticks.

Budget-friendly didn’t mean this dinosaur party lacked in the activity department. First on the agenda was making dinosaur “fossils” out of coffee play-dough. The kids chose a jar, rolled out their coffee playdough, and pressed small plastic dinosaurs into the dough, which was then baked during the party.

After the party crafts, the book Dinosaur Roar, by Paul and Henrietta Stickland, was read aloud to party guests. The party wrapped up with a dinosaur dance. That means guests got to romp and stomp like dinosaurs.

See—isn’t this party Dino-mite? Full of fun and creative details, all while sticking to a tight budget!
