Where to Eat in Kauai

In September, I had the pleasure of spending a week on the island of Kauai. The entire trip was pure magic from start to finish. You can take a peek at my suggestions of Places to Stay, See and Do in Kauai for ideas planning your own trip.

Where to Eat in Kauai

One of the highlights each day was the amazing food we enjoyed. Everything we ate was delicious! I was blown away by how fresh the fruit and seafood were.

Kalapaki Joes

Band at Kalapaki Joe's

I am in love with Kalapaki Joes! The views were breathtaking and the laid back atmosphere was amazing. I felt so relaxed the entire meal. Partway through dinner, a band showed up and to serenade diners — it was completely magical. Both the food and drinks were delicious — I highly recommend the coconut shrimp, (the best I’ve ever had) the carne asada fries and the fish tacos.

Duke's Waterfall

We found this gem right off the beach in Lihue, just a few minutes from the airport. And we enjoyed more than one meal here, that’s how good it was! The restaurant is open to a beautiful beach inlet plus is filled with gorgeous foliage and a coi pond.

Favorites included the fish tacos, pork sandwich, crispy coconut shrimp and the Kalapaki Pie for dessert. Their Pina Colada and Tropical Itch drinks were big hits!

Merriman's Crab Cakes

Sunset at Merriman's in Kauai

Merriman’s was incredible — definitely a must visit! The restaurant was beautiful and had amazing views. I am still salivating thinking about how good my dinner was. I started dinner with the crab cakes. I highly recommend the jumbo butter-poached keahole lobster. Their filet mignon was also the best I’ve ever tasted. You also MUST try the sweet corn jalapeño whipped potatoes — you can thank me later.

The atmosphere was incredible here! I was completely smitten with all the unique touches around the restaurant. From gorgeous lighting, to a glass front kitchen, to the friendly staff — I loved my experience here!

We started off with crispy fried cauliflower and brussel sprouts, which were incredible. The goat cheese mashed potatoes were to die for. The mango plantation drink was a must try!

The Fresh Shave

So freaking good. I just had shave ice at @thefreshshave that tasted like a pina colada. Oh my word. If you are ever in Kauai! #blogkauai

The Fresh Shave is THE place to get shave ice while you’re on the island. This fun couple and their made over vintage trailer are all about providing amazing flavor combinations with locally sourced, organic produce. Over the course of the week, we had all of the flavors — and they were all incredible! They also have fun daily specials. You can’t go wrong!

Hukilau Kauai

808.822.0600 – KAUAI COAST RESORT, 520 ALEKA LP, KAPAA HI 96746

Kukilau Lanai

This was definitely the fanciest of our meals. They had many unique flavor combinations including ahi poke nachos and opah with a pineapple and pumpkin chutney. Their dessert sampler was also out of this world.

Keoki’s Paradise

Farm Tour in Kauai

Eating at Keoki’s Paradise was a multi-part experience. The day started off with a tour of O.K. King Farms to see where much of the produce we’d be eating at dinner is grown. We learned about the agriculture of the island and even sampled fresh produce in the fields as we walked. That night at the restaurant, the staff took such great care of us. The grilled thai shrimp, Kalua pork spring rolls and Korean fried chicken sandwich were favorites. The mango colada was my favorite drink on the island.

Koloa Rum Factory

Koloa Rum Factory

We were given the opportunity to have a private tour of the Koloa Rum Factory while on the island. Can I just say… amazing!? They use local ingredients and real cane sugar to make the most delicious rum I’ve ever tasted — you must try their coconut version! You can visit their Tasting Room while on the island plus check out all the goodies at their Company Store. If I’m honest, I’ve ordered more rum from them since I’ve been home, it’s that good!

Monkeypod Jam

808-378-4208 — 3687 KAUMUALII, LAWAI, HI

By a happy accident, we stumbled across this delightful shop. The owner, Aletha Thomas works with over 25 Kauai farmers to create 55 seasonal preserves. After talking with her for just a few minutes, you could see that Aletha is passionate about Kauai agriculture, green living and producing high quality preserves. With unique flavor pairings, I bought several jars to bring home. She also had yummy pastries available. Plus, her shop is darling!

Stephanie Keeping

Stephanie is in love with a boy named Sam. He has taught her that it’s okay to jump first and look later, to wear a dirty shirt to the park and to decide that today is a good day to take a nap in your rubber boots. She hangs out here blogging at Spaceships and Laser Beams and at our printable party shop on Etsy.
