Are you up for romance in the lovely Scottish highlands? Be transported by the customs, costumes, castles and superstitions of the 18th century as portrayed in the upcoming televised version of Outlanders. Lose yourself in the adventure—the story will banish the everyday and convey you into a whole new world. Don’t forget to have provisions at the ready. My choice? No bake scotch and chocolate cheesecake mousse shots (we love this flavor combo as it was the theme of my husband’s 40th birthday party).

Based on the eight book series by Diana Gabaldon, the Outlander tells the tale of the feisty heroine, Claire Randall, and her handsome Scots warrior, Jamie Fraser. Watch them as they are confronted by the black hearted Jack Randall in the second half of the first season which premieres on April 4th.  You can enjoy time travel and more: historical fiction, adventure, science fiction, fantasy and my scotch and chocolate cheesecake shots! I’m certain the passionate Claire would approve of the scotch and chocolate combo.

The Outlander won the Romance Writers of America’s RITA Award for the Best Romance of 1991. My scotch and chocolate cheesecake shots won the Best Dessert of the Night Award…at my house. I think you’ll like it too. It’s a perfect dessert for a 21st century wench who wants to be transported to the 18th century.

Chocolate ganache on cheesecake mousse

No Bake Scotch and Chocolate Cheesecake Mousse Shots

1 block cream cheese (room temperature)
1/2 can sweetened condensed milk
1.5 ounces of your favorite Scotch (or to taste)

4 tablespoons chocolate chips
2 tablespoons heavy cream

Combine the cream cheese and sweetened condensed milk in a blender until it’s smooth. Slowly drizzle in the scotch. Taste as you go along. 🙂 Fill a piping bag (or large baggie) with the cream cheese mixture; cut off the end and pipe into shot glasses. Put them in the fridge for at least 3 hours, or until set.

Heat chocolate chips and heavy cream in the microwave for approximately 15 seconds. Stir until smooth and all chips are melted. Reheat in short bursts if necessary. Spoon ganache on top of each cream cheese shot. Spread until even.

Makes approximately 12 servings.
