This crockpot apple cobbler is an easy dessert recipe for any celebration. It’s a spiced apple mixture covered with a cake mix cobbler base — baked in a slow cookerthat comes out right every time.

Crockpot Apple Cobbler

Apple cobbler is one of the most classic American desserts. (Peach cobbler, too!)

Every time I come home with some fresh apples, this is the first thing I think of making one. The spicy sweet taste and moist texture make apple cobbler such a great comfort food.

Even better is when the cobbler can be made in a slow cooker- you just mix it and leave it to cook.

Crockpot Apple Cobbler Ingredients You Will Need

  • 5 apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • ½ cup of brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 package of spice cake mix
  • ½ cup of butter

Choosing the right apples

I personally love using granny smith apples because of the extra sourness it brings to the cobbler. It gives a great balance to all the spiciness and the sugariness of the brown sugar spice mix.

If you’re more of a sweet cobbler person, feel free to use any other varieties.

When choosing apples at the grocery store, pick ones that are fresh and firm with minimal bruising for the best cooked texture.

How to Make Crockpot Apple Cobbler

To make crockpot apple cobbler, first peel and thinly slice your apples. Thin slices allow the apples to cook fully in the slow cooker.

Toss the apple slices with a spice mix of brown sugar, cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice.

Pour the apple mix into the slow cooker base and sprinkle on the cake mix on top. Spread the mix around so it can be more even between apple slices.

Melt the butter and pour it over the top.

How Long to Cook

Now that the delicious mix for the apple cobbler is properly set up in your slow cooker, we’re ready for cooking your dessert.

Cover the pot and cook your cobbler on high for 2 to 3 hours. You’ll know it’s done when the apple is cooked tender and the crust becomes nicely browned.

Once it’s cooked, just leave it on warm to enjoy. Keeping it on warm won’t affect its taste as long as you keep it covered in the slow cooker.

How to Serve Crockpot Apple Cobbler

This spicy, tart cobbler would go so well served warm with a creamy companion. The best way of bringing that to the cobbler would be a dollop of whipped cream or a generous drizzle of heavy cream.

Of course, my favorite way of having this warm apple cobbler is with a cold, sweet scoop of vanilla ice cream. The temperature difference between the cobbler and the ice cream is simply unbeatable. 

One of the most unique toppings I’ve tasted is adding a slice of sharp cheddar cheese and letting it get a little melty over the top. It’s surprisingly good. The slight salty creaminess of the cheese really brings out the sweetness of the apples in your cobbler.

Ingredients
