Easy kitten-inspired crafting.

Looking for an easy project to keep the kids busy? My little guy loved making this kitten-inspired craft. I’m afraid it’s the only “critter” he’s going to own right now. After seeing our friend’s new kitties my boys wanted one. Or two. #Not.Going.To.Happen. Ryan and I have agreed this is not the time to include a pet in our family—but it’s sort of hard not to go soft when you see their sweet faces!  We donated cat litter to our friends, though. Thanks, ökocat, for sponsoring this post and making us look good!

Kitten Inspired DIY Crafting

When our friends discovered a feline family camped in their front yard this week, it caught their attention. We’re in the middle of extreme heat where we live so it’s a good thing they saw them when they did. Tender hearted Jaisen took the cats inside, gave them a tepid cool-down bath plus food and water. Sadly, only two of the five kitties survived.

And those two are charmers!

Boy with Kitten

Since my boys wanted up close and personal with the kitties, we went for a visit and took them a box of ökocat litter. They loved it! I think you can tell this lil’ guy wasn’t feeling his best, but isn’t he the sweetest?

OKOCAT Clumping Clay Litter

Since clay litters generate over 2.5 billion pounds of landfill every year in North America, ökocat seems like a responsible way to overcome that issue. ökocat is biodegradable, lightweight and it offers seven-day odor control—no other litter does all that. I knew my friends would like it.

It’s sustainability without compromise. And it smells good! It has a very faint, fresh wood scent.

Clay Clumping Kitty Litter

My friend appreciates how light-weight the box of ökocat is compared to heavier clay litters—it’s much easier to deal with—and how easy it makes cleaning the litter box because it clumps so well. You can be better than clay! You can find it in grocery and pet stores or order it from Amazon or Chewy.

Cat Mask for Kids

So, we’re happy for our friends and their new fur babies. Coming home without one of our own was kinda sad for my boys but making a paper plate cat mask and talking about the kitties seemed to satisfy them for now.

Cat Mask Tutorial

Since I don’t trust my boys with scissors yet, I cut up tissue paper squares and construction paper whiskers, ears, and a nose. My youngest loved “doin’ the glue” and sticking the paper pieces on. Simple crafting with stuff you probably already have around the house is a fun summer project to share with kids.

And if you have a real cat, I hear they love ökocat!
