Halloween Fun: Charlie Brown Pumpkin

By  | Last Updated:

It’s Great Pumpkin time!  Our family loves Charlie Brown and his gang (our cat is even named Linus!), so we always look forward to celebrating the season by watching It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. I got this fun idea to decorate our pumpkin to tie into our tradition after watching Charlie with my boys this week. I think it would be a great option for families who will be out trick or treating with their own young kids. Just leave the pumpkin full of candy on the porch for neighborhood trick or treaters. That should keep disgruntled tricksters at bay!

Start with the Great Pumpkin’s smaller cousin.

How to Scrape a Pumpkin

All you have to do is cut the top off the pumpkin and scrape the inside clean.

Painting a Pumpkin for Halloween

I used regular craft paint and a one-inch foam brush.

At first I tried to tape the pumpkin off so Charlie’s “shirt” would be nice and even. It didn’t take long to discover the pumpkin bumps and ridges didn’t want to cooperate. It was actually much easier to just create the zig-zags with the foam brush.

I would also suggest doing this close to the night of the event so you don’t have a moldy pumpkin! You could even put a clear plastic bag inside to hold the candy.

And what candy would be perfect? I put my money on Nestle® CRUNCH® Mini Bars with The Peanuts Movie characters. It will be in theaters November 6—in 3D animation no less—guess whose family is going on opening day? Nestle® CRUNCH® and PEANUTS®have partnered to offer what they’re calling “memory making moments”. I can chomp to that!

Also new this year is the SweeTARTS Skulls & Bones. And there are assorted Nestle® value bags, like the Boo Bag!

I’m especially pleased that Nestle® is continuing their commitment to remove artificial flavors and colors from all of their chocolate candies by the end of 2015. Nestle® classics like CRUNCH, Butterfinger, Baby Ruth, Raisinets, Goobers, Sno Caps, Oh Henry and 100 GRAND are now labeled with a new No Artificial Flavors or Colors banner. No one is saying that candy is a health food, but there is no reason it needs to contain unnatural ingredients—I like my chocolate to be the real deal—no tricks!
