Boy’s Plane Themed Birthday Party Ideas

By  | Last Updated:

Don’t you just love it when a boy’s birthday party takes the birthday boy and his party guests to a whole new level of fun? Julie, of My Classic Party, “flew” her son, Luke, and his friends to a sky view birthday celebration with cakes, cupcakes and cookie favors—all while enjoying the comforts of home!  Using a fresh take on airplane themed ideas, Julie crafted colorful decorations and a first class “lounge” to create flights of imagination.

Five-year-old Luke and his party guests were invited to a screening of the Disney movie, “Planes”.  Julie set up a “Baggage Claim” area to welcome guests and as soon as friends began to arrive, they each received a Dusty airplane kit to put together and coloring pages kept them busy, too.

Parents waited in the airport first class lounge area where they could visit and savor fruit kabobs, veggie cups and pretzels while the kids “boarded” the plane and found their numbered seats.

As they watched Dusty’s adventures on a rented big screen, the kids were served an in-flight meal on lunch trays by Sweet Shop Lulu that looked like the real deal. Airline fare has never looked as cute as the plane-shaped sandwiches that were served on this flight! Fresh fruit was served in orange and white striped cups; striped straws and party medallions fancied up the water bottles; blue Jello added a nice shot of color contrast. Of course there had to be popcorn for the movie viewing, too!

When it was time to land, everyone met at the “Time Flies” dessert table. Dusty was parked right in the middle of the action on a miniature piece of luggage. The time flies banner and a picture time line of Luke were centered over the table. Orange and white polka dotted paper fan medallions and balloons in blue, white and orange added to the festive air. The birthday cake (and cupcake toppers) was created by Les Pop Sweets; they used blue and orange polka dots that really popped against the white frosting. I love the “embossing” detail on the plane topper, too. It’s also used on Luke’s name, initials and the number “5”.

Orange and white polka dots are repeated on the cupcake wrappers and they’re all arranged on twin white pedestals.  Rice Krispy plane-shaped treats are skewered with sticks in blue and white stripes; it was a good idea to use the clear glass containers for display because they allowed the colors to show.

In addition to the “Dusty” planes the kids made, airplane shaped cookies in blue and orange were packaged for take-home favors.

The kids could have enjoyed just being together and watching a movie, but Julie created a fun party experience for Luke and his guests with this innovative version of an airplane theme. Clever ideas and fresh colors combined to create a first class celebration!
