How does a clever mom decorate for a garbage truck themed birthday party?  Vesna began with a newsprint style wrapping paper as the dessert table backdrop.  I love how she used wood and galvanized metal stands to add texture to the mint, black, kraft and gold color palette. I like the addition of plants, too—in gold bags!—positioned on the stands. Vesna found mini black and mint garbage bins which she used to display a mix of candy—a  cunning detail! A darling Melissa and Doug garbage truck serves as a fun reminder of the theme.

A trash themed party conjures up an unlovely image, at least in my imagination. Vesna’s juxtaposition of style and symmetry with the trash theme is what makes this party so amazing! And take a look at that cake: I am in awe of the newsprint inspired, two-tiered “trash king” cake by Dewi, of Sweet Bloom Cakes!  The gold lettering on the front is awesome; the wooden garbage truck topper is an excellent choice. The cake definitely made an impressive focal point on the table.

Other sweet treats included cake pops and mint macarons, both enticingly displayed on cake pedestals. Vesna also offered candy bars with custom trash king wrappers.  Glass bottles were perfectly aligned, serving up a green drink with tree bark inspired paper straws.

Don’t miss the quick peek at the dining tables which were also covered in the newsprint pattern.  Vesna set attractive place settings with black and white polka dotted plates, a pop of color from green napkins and custom stamped eco-friendly wooden cutlery.  Notice the cute toy garbage trucks used as fun tabletop décor.

Using rubbish as her inspiration, Vesna planned wonderful theme-specific party games: “pass the parcel” and “pick up your trash”.

Another ideal choice was the striped favor bags which were topped with the crown motif that was used throughout the Trash King’s party.
