A Lightning McQueen Themed Boy’s Birthday Party

By  | Last Updated:

Get ready for adventure. Take a drive down Route 66 and pull into Radiator Springs for a Lightning McQueen themed boy’s birthday party!  Chrissy Trujillo, party planner, Vitalic Photo photographer, and mom to 3-year-old birthday boy, Tanner, was inspired by her son’s love for the Disney Cars movie. Party guests were treated to an authentic Cars experience, as the birthday venue was transformed into a magical race inspired party.  You’ll find inspiration in Chrissy’s creations—birthday cake, dessert table, decorations and favors—all of which delighted the little race car drivers and their parents.

The creativity in this party is remarkable. Watching the movie (“a million times”) sparked the idea for the awesome dessert table backdrop that set the scene for the event. All of the colors on the table tie in perfectly with the DIY custom vintage billboard Chrissy created. Notice how the white-washed board effect coordinates with the western sky image. Real cactus plants add dimension to the presentation and the mini cake bunting perfectly ties in with the table front pennants.

Chrissy also created custom labels and attached them to soup cans. They look like vintage oil cans except if you look closely, you’ll realize they incorporate happy birthday messages for Tanner!
A terrific display of wooden racers greeted the young car enthusiasts, along with their very own driver’s licenses. You can imagine the thrill on a little boy’s face as he discovered his very own license, complete with photo, and wooden car to drive!

The table also included an elaborate display of treats and goodies, brilliantly incorporating all aspects of the party’s color scheme. Chrissy uniquely integrated the characters from the movie into the menu: Sally’s Cozy Cones (Bugle Bites), Mater’s Taters (potato chips), Luigi’s Tower of Tires (chocolate doughnuts), Doc Hudson’s Dip Sticks (chocolate covered pretzels), and Sheriff’s Stop Lights (fruit skewers). There were also fun, striped containers of popcorn and cotton candy. Cupcakes topped with mounds of frosting and Chrissy’s cute party printables rounded out the treats menu. Savory choices included a cheese and cracker platter, Chick Hicks’ Chicken Strips and Guido’s Pizza.

The guest of honor was treated to an adorable Disney Cars race car driver shirt, beautifully incorporating the little boy into the party theme itself.

Party entertainment included many fun themed activities. Pin-the-Buck-Teeth on Mater, a Lightning McQueen piñata, adorable cardboard racing cars, and a craft station where the little drivers made their very own license tags kept guests busy.  Ramone’s House of Body Art featured the kids’ favorite activity, face painting by Judy Face Painting. A Snap Booth photo booth entertained adults and kids alike!
