Knight in Style by boysbecool featuring leather sneakers

I’m thrilled to introduce a new feature to the Spaceships and Laser Beams blog. The fabulous Julia from Boys Be Cool has become our first guest blogger. On what we’re calling Party Boy Fashion Fridays, she’ll be showing us a party outfit she’s styled that showcases perfectly how boy + party + fashion can go hand in hand. For true boy style, be sure to visit Julia at Boys Be Cool and become a fan on her Facebook page. – Stephanie

In certain age fascination with knight species in all kinds of shine armor replaces obsession with terrible lizards or stinkbugs, or Buzz Light. If galloping on imaginary horse, swaying his jewel encrusted sword  and careful planning of multiple rescue missions involving annoying princesses (well, a knight’s got to do what a knight’s got to do) had become a pattern it’s time to introduce elements of knight’s style. Keep in mind that these gentlemen took a great pride in their appearance.

Forget the cheesy Halloween armor – hip and modern intarsia sweaters with knights’ paraphernalia (shields, swords, crests etc.)  and trompe l’oeil tees are quite sufficient in conveying the concept without trampling his style. Gap and Vertbaudet are fine suppliers of a modern knight’s armor.

Replace bulky, heavy helmet with hip handmade knight beanie with red-hawked helm found in the treasure trove of Etsy or on

Metallic sneakers are not just one of the hottest trends in kids’ footwear; they are an essential element of a shining armor, literally! Any metallic hi-tops will do. These H&M sneakers had sold out in a split second but we are positive we’ll be seeing more of gleaming silver and gold in upcoming SS13 collections. If money is not an object – push the armor concept to the studded edge of super cool Ash hi-tops.

A pair of fitted jeans in the knight’s heraldic color is the least challenging element of the knight’s attire as stores are overflowing with boys’ bottoms in every imaginable color and at every price point. You can’t go wrong with H&M or NEXT (hot pink chinos for the bravest knight of style?).

Your little knight is ready to meet his adoring entourage.
