You’ll need:

For The Chocolate Cake:

  • 1 cup of butter
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1½ cups of flour
  • ¾ cup of cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • 1¼ cups of red wine

For The Chocolate Glaze:

  • ¼ cup of butter
  • 1 cup of chocolate chips
  • 1 cup of powdered sugar
  • ½ cup of red wine

Substitutions And Additions

RED WINE: You can choose your favorite Merlot or Cabernet to use in this recipe. This is also a great way to use up leftover wine that you have in your fridge.

How To Make This Red Wine Chocolate Cake Recipe

STEP ONE: Preheat oven to 350°F and spray a bundt pan with nonstick spray.

STEP TWO: In the bowl of a stand mixer, cream together the butter, white sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla.

STEP THREE: Add the eggs one at a time and mix until creamy.

STEP FOUR: In a separate bowl, mix together the dry ingredients. Slowly add the mixture to the wet ingredients.

STEP FIVE: Pour in the red wine and mix the chocolate cake batter until smooth.

STEP SIX: Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.

STEP SEVEN: Let the cake cool before removing it from the pan.

STEP EIGHT: Melt the butter and chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Whisk in the powdered sugar and red wine. Pour glaze over the top of the cake and serve.

PRO TIP:

Place your cake on a cooling rack before pouring the glaze over top so that it doesn’t puddle around the base of the cake.
