Paleontology Cupcakes {Dinosaur Birthday Party Ideas}

How cute are these cupcakes for a dinosaur party?

We love a good dinosaur birthday party here at Spaceships and Laser Beams. So when Nikki at Tikkido sent me photos of these AWESOME paleontology cupcakes, the first words I typed back to her were “can I feature them on our blog?” Whether you are doing a dinosaur hunter take on the theme or having a classic dinosaur party, these cupcakes would fit in perfectly. Nikki, herself, made these for a child who wanted a paleontology party at a Museum of Natural History. [Looking for other dinosaur cake ideas? Check out the post 12 Dinosaur Cakes We Love.”]

Nikki even has a tutorial on her blog to show you how to make the gum paste bones that sit on top of the cupcakes. Don’t you love how the bones bend to spell out the birthday boy’s name?

These would be fairly easy to make as you could just dip your favorite cupcake combination into brown sugar “dirt.” Or if that was too sweet for your liking, I think graham wafer crumbs would work as well.

TIME SAVING TIP: If you don’t want to make your own gum paste bones, these fossils could be nestled on top of your cupcakes for the same effect. OR if you wanted something edible, pour white candy melts into this dinosaur bone tray and let it set. (I have this tray and I LOVE IT.)

Stephanie is in love with a boy named Sam. He has taught her that it's okay to jump first and look later, to wear a dirty shirt to the park and to decide that today is a good day to take a nap in your rubber boots. She hangs out here blogging at Spaceships and Laser Beams and at our printable party shop on Etsy.
