The Importance of Bedtime Routines

By  | Last Updated:

I’m sharing #JOHNSONS in my life as part of a JOHNSON’S ® sponsored series for Socialstars™ but all opinions are my own.

I’d love to wake up refreshed, ready to roar at the start of the day. Unfortunately, I work late into the night and never go to bed early.  It seems there are always more things I want to stuff in a day before it’s over. This has been a lifelong pattern.

I’ve been talking a bit about our big family move to a town that’s a couple of hours away. But I haven’t talked about the reasons behind it. A big one is that I want to focus more on my health – with exercising more and sleeping more being at the top of the list.

Turns out sleep is necessary for more than great dreams. Regular, restful sleep patterns can contribute to better health, higher pain threshold, better mood, clearer thinking and better memory, among other benefits. Studies have shown a link between sound sleep and learning, memory, physical and emotional health in little ones, too.

Even though I am lacking a proper sleep routine right now, with all the changes happening in our lives these past few months, keeping Sam’s nighttime routine the same at my sister-in-law’s house has been essential.

Although he is well past the baby stage, the bedtime rituals help him relax and fall asleep. It’s a pattern we started when he was a small baby but today’s version means:

  • 15 minutes practicing math on a tablet
  • Bath time; brushing teeth
  • Quiet time with mommy
  • Reading (with snuggles!)
  • Tucking in with a super-fuzzy blanket and his three cuddlies (named Finn, Kindness and Reid)

When Sam was tiny, I would often massage his little feet and legs after his bath, then wrap him in a warm blanket. I remember snuggling with him and thinking his new baby smell was the best scent in the world. I still love the combination of JOHNSON’S® lotion and a freshly washed kid!

JOHNSON’S® products continue to help moms and dads take care of their little ones. A bed time routine that includes a warm bath, baby massage and quiet time is an excellent way to ease baby into sleep. (I know it would put me to sleep!) And using your favorite products like JOHNSON’S® BEDTIME® bath, baby BEDTIME® lotion and baby BEDTIME® bubble bath and wash can help make those right-before-bed snuggles the sweetest!

Want your own nighttime routine?

Stephanie is in love with a boy named Sam. He has taught her that it’s okay to jump first and look later, to wear a dirty shirt to the park and to decide that today is a good day to take a nap in your rubber boots. She hangs out here blogging at Spaceships and Laser Beams and at our printable party shop on Etsy.
