Magic Unicorn Popsicle Holder

By  |

This darling, magical unicorn popsicle holder is the perfect way to enjoy a yummy, frozen treat!

I’ve always loved everything about summertime.

Growing up in the Midwest, I longed for the warm sunshine that the summer months ushered in — I loved all the activities we could enjoy during the summer months.

As a girl, I spent the entire summer barefoot, in shorts and a tank top, having one sunshine filled adventure after another.

There were bike rides with friends, swimming in the river and evening walks with a frozen treat in hand.

There are many aspects of my summer memories that I want to recreate with my own boys so they can have the same great experiences I did while growing up.

Now that my family is settled in Arizona, I’m elated to get to enjoy sunshine and warmer temperatures year round.

While many parts of the country are finally enjoying a break from winter, we are already experiencing warm temperatures and summer action in our neck of the woods. Plus, school is almost over for my two boys.

It’s hard for me to believe that my oldest will be starting kindergarten in only a few months. My youngest will be starting a new year of preschool.

Watching them grow so quickly makes me want to freeze time!

I know that our slower paced, school free days won’t last forever. So this summer, I am determined to enjoy moments together as a family — at a slower pace, where we can really soak up the moments together.

Unicorn Popsicle Holder

I’m sharing this DIY popsicle holder idea with you in partnership with Mirum.

Most the time these days, I take advantage of Walmart’s Online Grocery Pick Up.

It’s so easy and convenient: I’m able to order everything we need online and then just swing by the store for pick up.

I find it to be much simpler than trying to take the boys through the store with me! Of course, some days we still head in together.

On a recent trip to Walmart, my boys begged to go down the frozen aisle. They wanted to find a sweet treat to enjoy that afternoon.

With their big blue eyes looking up at me, I could hardly turn them down.

And let’s be honest… a sweet, frozen dessert sounded pretty good to me as well!

It didn’t take long for them to spot the iconic, bright yellow Popsicle® brand box in one of the cases.

Popsicle Mango

We all know that bright, yellow box means a great treat is inside! They offer all kinds of popsicles — the original and best summer treat in my book!

Now with their new Popsicle® Fruit Pops, they offer me a wholesome and nutritional option that I can feel good about serving.

Summer Popsicle Towel

This summer, they’re also offering the Popsicle Rewards program. From May 15 to August 15, buy $15 of Popsicle products at Walmart and upload your receipt.

You can then select your limited edition Popsicle beach towel.

Even more reasons to snag some boxes of Popsicle goodies!

My boys can be notoriously messy while eating. I don’t know where they get it. 😉

Unicorn Popsicle Treat

I decided to make some popsicle sleeves to help prevent sticky fingers… plus, they’re oh-so-cute!

These homemade popsicle holders for kids would be darling for a summer party.

They make an easy no-drip solution for your sweet, frozen treats.

Plus, who doesn’t love a fun DIY unicorn idea?!

Supplies for Popsicle Holders

To create these magical unicorn popsicle holders, we need just a few items.

Unicorn Popsicle Holder

I used white cupcake baking cups, a permanent marker, scissors, a hot glue gun, unicorn ears and flower stickers.

Once you have your supplies, we can get started.

How to Make a Popsicle Holder

You’ll begin by cutting a slit in the bottom of the cup the size of a popsicle stick.

Next, draw on eyes onto the middle of the cup.

Unicorn Ears

Cut out ears and glue on the inside of the cup.

Then place the flower stickers in between the ears.

Finally, place the popsicle into the cup and serve.

Chocolate Dipped Popsicles

I decided to take our popsicles up another notch and offered the boys an extra treat on them: toppings.

Popsicle Toppings

In a microwave safe jar, I microwaved one cup of chocolate chips and 1/2 tablespoon of canola oil for one minute and then stirred well.

Popsicle Dipped in Chocolate

Unwrap a popsicle and dip in the chocolate. Use a knife to help evenly spread the chocolate over the popsicle.

Popsicle with Coconut

Then immediately cover in sprinkles or shredded coconut.

Popsicle Ideas

Put the popsicle in your unicorn popsicle holder and serve!

My boys could not get enough of the strawberry popsicles dipped in chocolate. They both thought it was the ultimate treat.

Playing at Splash Pad

One of our favorite spots to spend an afternoon is our local splash pad.

On a recent particularly sunny afternoon, I suggested a splash pad trip to the boys. They were elated.

Family Time at Splash Pad

We spent a whole chunk of the day splashing in the water and visiting with friends. It was everything you hope a day with your kiddos will be.

They enjoyed Popsicle treats during a break in the afternoon.

Later, when we got home, the boys begged for their new favorite treat. I knew exactly what they meant.

Popsicle Strawberry

I pulled the big, yellow box of out of the freezer and got the toppings ready.

I had extra unicorn popsicle holders in the cupboard from our first time making them so I grabbed those, too.

The boys were delighted with their magical treat and asked for seconds. I was happy to oblige them.

Popsicle Treat Idea

After all, summer is all about slowing down the pace, enjoying quiet moments as a family and savoring treats together.
