Celebrating Mom: Easy DIY Wineglass

By  | Last Updated:

The last year has brought so much change for me. Both internally and externally, my entire world has shifted a thousand degrees.

I lost 70 pounds. I became a single mom. I became fierce. I learned that the only way to live life is head on. I learned that I can do hard things. Impossible things. I learned that brave can happen even in the face of fear.

I look back at photos and barely recognize the person that I was two years ago. There has been so much drastic change. So much growth. So much newness. So many fabulous things.

Zane and Shay

There have been a thousand moments that were defining over the last six months. Little things like learning to do jobs that weren’t mine before: taking out the trash and shoveling the driveway in a blizzard. (Who knew my driveway was so freaking long!?) There have been other “big” moments like navigating a single income budget and dealing with medical emergencies. Even in the hardest moments, I wouldn’t take back the lessons I’ve learned along the way.

Jorryn and I

My small but mighty tribe of people have loved me endlessly. There have been terrified middle of the night phone calls and hours of laughter — and every emotion in between. I have grown so much in the last months. I feel like an entirely new person now. I like my new person.

Zane and I

That makes this Mother’s Day seem even more special. Because I know how much I have fought to get to this place. I haven’t arrived yet. But I am more in love with today than yesterday. I have started to embrace celebrating me. I have started to realize that I am worth celebrating.

This isn’t to say there aren’t still moments where I feel like a million miles from where I want to be. Where I question my choices and experience mom guilt. I think that’s part of the journey of motherhood. You must be doing something right if you’re questioning what on earth you’re doing. You’re aware. You’re striving for better. You’re passionate about doing it right.

Everyday Wine Ideas

To help me celebrate, I decided a little DIY was in order.

Now, if you know me… you know that DIY and I don’t always get along. Every Christmas, I peruse Pinterest and come up with a thousand great ideas for gifts that I will make. I happily purchase all the supplies required to make my homemade goodies. And 95% of the time, it’s an epic failure. Epic. I just don’t have DIY in me I don’t think. But that doesn’t deter me from trying. Because I can just imagine the magic of the projects that do turn out.

Easy Mother's Day DIY

I decided to treat myself to some fun DIY wine glasses. Now. Not only do I not fully get DIY projects. Wine is kind of beyond me too. I just know that I like the taste of some wines but I don’t understand the magic of pairing them or any of those finer details. My friend Dawn told me the best way to know if you like a wine is to drink it. This seems like a reasonable theory to me.

JaM Cellars Butter Chardonnay

I will also totally purchase something because I like the packaging.

Because if there is fabulous packaging, the product must be da bomb too, yes? Yes.

So this JaM Cellars Butter Chardonnay makes me happy. Because the packaging. And the taste. And it’s Mother’s Day and I deserve to sit in the sunshine and drink out of cute DIY glasses.

JaM Cellars  makes three easy-to-love, everyday California wines Butter Chardonnay, JaM Cabernet and Toast Sparkling. I love that they’re a second-generation Napa Valley vintners — made in the tradition of great California winemaking — rich, bold and luscious.

Nail Polish DIY Idea

This idea is crazy simple. If you’re like me, you have approximately 579,368 bottles of nail polish. This puts some of those fabulous colors to good use.

I picked up these cute, plastic glasses at my local store. I need plastic because I’m clumsy even before the wine is introduced. Non-breakable is my friend.

DIY Wineglass

Grab however many bottles of nail polish you’d like in whatever shades tickle your fancy. Grab a paper plate and some Q-tips as well.

Easy DIY Wine Glass

Now, go to town. Pour a little nail polish on the paper plate. Dip your Q-tip in the color and polka dot the glass to your heart’s content.

Polka Dot DIY Wineglasses

I decided to just do one color on each glass. But you could easily use two or three colors. Or tons… because really DIY means you could can do whatever you want! Ah, I love DIY.

Easy DIY Drink Idea

I’m all about how these glasses turned out. A little bit of polka dot happy to bring a smile to my face on the hard days or to celebrate a success.
