Review RecipeBaby Elephant Themed First Birthday Party
Table of Contents
Any boy’s first birthday party is likely to be a favorite memory for mom and dad, but baby Julian’s first birthday is even precious to me-it’s darling.
Using grey and white chevron decorations, accents of blue and red and a sweet elephant theme, Magdalena, of Oh So Chic Celebrations, created a classic party with a fresh vibe.
The elephant image on We Love Crafty Tracy’s invitation was the starting point for the themed ideas Magdalena used throughout this celebration; it appears several times on the dessert table including on the cake, favor cookies and other party supplies.
The result is delightful!

There was an enticing array of sweets on the dessert table and Magdalena created a pleasing balance with the display. Chevron, polka dots and the repetition of themed colors create a nice rhythm.
I love the trio of cakes–three flavors too! The fondant elephant and blue platform on chevron–so cute! And it looks terrific with the giant polka dotted cakes.
Macaron towers (by Periwinkle Sweets) look like polka dots, too.
Choosing chevron for the dessert table backdrop pulled everything together.
You’ll also find vanilla cupcakes in red and blue sleeves, red and blue candies in ribboned jars, marshmallow pops, sugar cookies (notice the chevron and pinwheel patterns) and parfaits.
The darling cake pops had elephants, polka dots and chevron.
This outdoor party was a tented, sit down luncheon with a traditional Portuguese meal of steak, fish and rice. Adults and children had their own tables.
Instead of using flowers on the tables, Magdalena opted for giant, red balloons just like the themed elephant held. What fun!
Adult place settings use white napkins centered over shiny red plates; placing the large elephant shaped cookie favors over the napkins creates a nice “framed” visual.
At the kids’ table, placemats look like oversized coloring pages and theres room for extra doodles; buckets of crayons give additional pops of color.
The kids’ favor boxes add graphic appeal: clean white boxes intersected with a single, red stripe, topped with an elephant/balloon medallion. Inside, kids discovered model toy cars, bubble bottles and a smaller version of the elephant cookies.
A photo timeline represents each month of baby Julian’s first year and besides generating conversation, it looks great as a banner over the gift table.
Another point that I think is a great takeaway idea here is that the parents waited to do the smash cake at the end of the party. That way baby had his fun discovery and mom and dad caught the moments on camera, but Julian stayed clean for the majority of the party. I think that makes a good way to close the party, too!
