I think I may have found a new recipe to add to my fall line-up: this funnel cake recipe has apples and a homemade caramel sauce for dipping.

What is Funnel Cake?
In case you’ve never had the pleasure of enjoying funnel cake before, allow me tell you a little bit about what it is.
It’s a batter that is poured through a funnel in hot oil and friend until crisp. It’s traditionally served sprinkled with sugar.
It’s heaven in every bite!
Today’s funnel cake recipe also features a delicious homemade caramel sauce as well.
What Do You Need to Make Funnel Cake?
Only a handful of ingredients! You can use a deep fryer or pan. No fancy gadgets required!
Funnel Cake Ingredients
We only need four things to make this best funnel cake recipe.
Bisquick, an egg, whole milk, and Pink Lady apples.
Homemade Caramel Sauce Ingredients
For the homemade caramel, you’ll gather unsalted butter, dark brown sugar, heavy cream and vanilla.

How to Make Funnel Cake
Start by filling your deep fryer with fresh frying oil and turning it on.
Add the egg and whole milk in a bowl with the Bisquick. Mix all of the ingredients together with a spoon. Whisk to remove any lumps.
Test to see if oil is hot enough by dripping a few small drops of batter into it. After they sizzle and turn brown, your fryer is ready for the apple rings.
Put one apple ring in the batter at a time, making sure each side is completely coated.
Drop one apple ring in at a time (our fryer will hold four rings at once). Watch carefully, when the battered apple ring begins to turn brown, flip it over to the other side with a fork. Continue to watch so they don’t burn.
Cover a baking sheet with paper towels.
When both sides of the cooked apple rings are done, remove them from the deep fryer and drain on paper towel-lined baking sheet. Allow to cool enough to touch.
How to Make Homemade Caramel Sauce
Start by melting butter in a double boiler. Add the brown sugar; stir for two minutes. Pour in the heavy cream, stirring for an additional two minutes.
Take off the top half of the double boiler and add the vanilla. Stir well to make sure that the vanilla is blended into the sauce.
Pour into a jar allowing to cool completely. Store in the refrigerator.

FUNNEL CAKE
- 1 C Bisquick
- 1 egg room temp
- 1/2 C whole milk
- 2 Pink Lady apples, pared and cored
CARAMEL SAUCE
- 1 stick unsalted butter
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 2/3 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
