Never Think About What to Make for Dinner for the Next Two Months with My Lazy Cooking Bundle
Does your son love to carry and throw balls? Why not “have a ball” celebrating with a sports themed boy’s birthday party? It is a perfect theme for a milestone 1st birthday!
It’s even more perfect when your dad happens to be a professional golfer and your family members are avid sports fans.
This describes the reality for Mel, of Melly Moments Blog, who shared these as reasons that a sports theme was a natural choice for her son’s birthday party. My Ellabelle Photography captured all of the exciting DIY décor details, creative party favors and refreshments which made this party a hit!
- Get the ball rolling on party plans with ideas from this boy’s vintage baseball birthday party.
- Looking for budget-friendly, DIY ideas? This boy’s baseball party is full of great ideas.
Mel sent out terrific ticket-inspired birthday invitations inviting her chosen party crowd to “come have a ball” at Ethan’s first birthday. The details are adorable with cute phrasing like “game time” and her son’s last name listed for the “stadium” location.
Who wouldn’t want to share in the celebration of Ethan’s rookie year? Guests were even invited to dress in their favorite sports gear and rsvp to the “coaches”.
Once guests arrived at the birthday stadium, it was clear who they were celebrating. A customized birthday stats poster hung prominently and included such fun personalized details about Ethan: things he loves, favorite toys and food, height, weight and number of teeth.
A photo collage wall was also a great way to celebrate the birthday all-star. Mel had My Ellabelle Photography take photos of Ethan leading up to his party, which made a memorable wall display.
Mel definitely scored a home run with her ballpark concession stand inspired menu!
Hot dogs were decked out in vintage foil wrappers and served along with brats, pasta salad, fruit and other ballpark favorites.
Snacks included Cracker Jacks, baseball cake pops and other ball-inspired treats like: donut holes (golf balls), pretzel bites (footballs), OREO cookies (hockey pucks) and Cheeto balls (basketballs).
The food and treats were cleverly displayed, too. There were striped popcorn containers, colorful baskets and even a cake pop stand made from a container of faux grass.
Ribbon and printable sports themed embellishments added to the refreshments gave a finished, coordinated look.
I love how Mel used a faux grass table cover to give a field vibe and then reinforced the theme with her DIY chalkboard“Our little MVP” sign.
Mel arranged party games to keep the good times rolling. Oversized sport-themed beach balls were blown up for the kids to play with. A number of other sporty games were set up as well: ladder ball, bags, basketball and so on.
Guests were also invited to autograph a baseball and soccer ball at a darling autograph station, complete with a custom made sign. It would be nearly impossible not to “have a ball” at this party.
As is often customary at first birthday parties, Mel arranged for a special smash cake for her son. She decked out his high chair with an adorable“one” banner and a blue cover on his tray, providing the perfect setting for a well-loved smash cake moment.
Ethan loved his cake by Sweet Designs Cake Decorating. It was awesome, covered with a different sport on each side and Ethan’s initial on top.
A sports-inspired gift area was designated with cool sporting themed quotes on vintage style tin signs and a DIY banner made from string and balloons—so simple, but festive!
One of the theme appropriate gifts Ethan received was an “All Star” book from I See Me, with personalized details about the guest of honor. What a darling keepsake he can cherish for years to come.
For the little rookie’s #1 fans, Mel prepped blue favor bags with DIY labels, “We hope you had a BALL at the party”. Each bag was filled with a pack of Big League Chew gum, sports themed rubber ducks, a squishy sports themed stress ball and a mini-sized trophy embellished with a custom “Most Valuable Friend” label. I’d say members of this party crowd scored big, wouldn’t you?
Way to go Mel! Your little Ethan is lucky to be a party of the “home” team with such talented coaches!
