Table of Contents
Sound the Octoalert! This Octonauts-inspired 3rd birthday party is swimming with creative details. Planned by Leah of I Heart Table Art to honor her son, Jack, she achieved a clean, fresh look for the party styling by selecting ocean shades of blue and green with generous splashes of white. The cake and other party food ideas, as well as the decorations, printables, and party games, all coordinated with both the theme and color scheme.

Styled around amazing printable graphics and a backdrop by Pretty and Print, Leah designed an under-the-sea, ocean floor dessert table that surely inspired shouts of “jumping jellyfish” and “flappity flippers”. Delightful blue and white cake stands, paired with white plates, made perfect display pieces for gorgeous desserts.
Sweet little Octonauts characters top a beautiful cake by Sweetharts Cupcakes. The kelp detailing is perfect. We love how Octonaut’s faces were expertly captured in fondant for both the cupcakes and enticing sugar cookies by Charming Treats. Their zips of color added to the overall energy of the table, too. Kids get so excited to see their favorite characters as part of the desserts!
Other dessert options included blue and green cake pops which looked impressive when lined up on display. Custom printable wrapped candy bars were another wonderful addition to the dessert table; we especially like the contrast of the darker blue on these pedestals.
Our favorite DIY idea’s from this ocean adventure are the candy jars. Leah made these by painting the lids of glass jars and affixing small character figurines. We think the colorful candy choices look amazing shining through the clear glass. We also loved Leah’s ingenuity in creating the aquariums by using glass vessels, colored rocks, plants, and Octonauts characters. These little details made the dessert table an underwater masterpiece!
A colorful tassel garland by Piece of Cake Parties & Celebrations highlighted a sweet beverage station. For the main meal, Leah set up a delightful dining area under a water-colored tent with beautiful honeycomb balls. Lovely pops of color were added to the tables and chairs with a spread of confetti dots. Polka dotted straws in milk glasses paired with pale aqua plates for fun place settings that multiplied the watercolor effects. We love that each plate was topped by an Octonauts hat. Each guest received lunch in a clear clamshell with a cute, custom “crew meal” label.
At the conclusion of their ocean adventure, guests received darling favor boxes (Favor Lane), with custom favor tags and fun Octonauts-inspired loot, flag, notebook, eye patch, and snack. Sound the Octoalert? False alarm; it’s just the squeals of delight at this incredible boy or girl’s Octonauts-inspired 3rd birthday party! Curious to see more of Leah’s work? Follow her on Facebook.
