Aiming to plan a party that your child will love? This laser tag birthday party was hosted by Maureen Anders, of Anders Ruff Custom Designs, for her son and we are sharing her tips on styling an impressive and affordable party set-up at a location away from home. When set-up time is limited to 30 minutes, it can pose a challenge, but Maureen pulled off ultra-cool decorations, and treat ideas including an awesome cake, and party favors that definitely hit the mark!

If you are familiar with Maureen’s parties like this pizzeria birthday party or ninja birthday party, then you know she loves to go all out on creative details and elaborate dessert tables. However, when the birthday plans only allowed for about 30 minutes in the party room, Maureen opted for a more practical approach.

Maureen created an oversized “scene setter” image to hang on the wall. The laser tag gun looks amazing and the neon colors pop against the black background. Not only did this poster make a great backdrop for the party space,  but it also served as a fun photo op.

Because Maureen decided to forego a whole dessert table, she designed a colorful area for the kids to sit and eat, plus she used the center of the dining table to serve treats. A black and white striped runner covered the table and laid the foundation for awesome place settings. Each guest’s place consisted of a bright green plate, topped with a clear plastic favor box. Maureen filled them with black paper shreds, laser tag finger lights ,and a laser pointer. Each was tied with twine and a favor tag from the Anders Ruff laser tag birthday collection.

Custom-wrapped, laser blue bottles of Gatorade were served with cute paper straws and “zap” straw flags. Black gable boxes had a custom look with themed labels and a laminated luggage tag personalized with each guest’s name. The tags can be reused on a backpack or lunchbox, long after the party is over–a great extra.

An additional cake stand held stacks of gum in laser tag-themed wrappers and as any mom knows, gum is a well-loved treat. Clear glass vessels were customized with laser- themed labels, then filled with candy and glow sticks. Gleeful girls and boys filled their gable boxes with the treats.

With a last -minute chocolate cake request, there was not time to order a custom cake, so Maureen purchased one at the grocery store. To add a custom look at a fraction of the cost, Maureen designed laser tag themed printable cake toppers. Red gumballs around the base added a colorful contrast.

The activity portion of this party was a no-brainer:  kids spent time in the laser tag arena having fun! They enjoyed wearing personalized laser tag shirts Maureen made, using opaque iron-on transfer paper sheets and her own iron-on designs. Maureen hit the bulls-eye with this laser tag birthday party theme, proving an awesome celebration can be portable and stylish even in 30 minutes!
