Choo-choo train themed boy’s birthday parties are a classic party choice for little boys. When Angela, of Taffie Wishes, started planning for her son, Levi’s 2nd birthday, there was no doubt what the theme should be.

With an absolute love of trains and an obsession for saying “choo choo” every time he saw one, Angela based her sons 2nd birthday party around a little Brio train that has been a family favorite over the years.

Sticking to a color palette of red, yellow and hints of neutrals (black, white and brown), Angela coordinated festive invitations, party decorations, a cake, cupcakes and other sweet treats.

Cute train party invitations set the theme for this colorful 2nd birthday party. Guests arrived to a party space full of delightful train inspiration.

From the decked out dining table to the bay window hanging décor to the choo-choo treat table, this party is full of many great ideas for a train themed boy’s birthday party.

I adore the details of the dining table. Angela combined eye-catching polka dot prints and textures to create a foundation for all of the tabletop décor.

Her pleated handmade runner is fabulous! Each place setting included a clear dessert plate, layered on top of a yellow railroad crossing plate and a black dinner plate.

Individual sized mason jars were filled with fresh salsa and adorned with red pom pom ties.

The train centerpiece is spectacular! Angela crafted the train by using small crates from the craft store; she decorated them with die-cut card stock pieces which mimicked the train design from the invitations.

Each crate held a plastic container filled with taco fixings as part of the “make your own taco bar”.

Confetti garland was sewn and paired with paper rosettes and train themed stickers to liven up bay windows. It’s amazing how a few simple, but well-thought out details can add to a party space.

Let’s talk about the dessert table: I am completely obsessed with the pleated table skirt made from folded and sewn cardstock. This is such an incredible DIY detail.

The table skirt was embellished with a trendy fabric tassel garland. Angela also made the Choo-Choo backdrop sign using black foam core and hand stitched lettering. This was affixed to patterned burlap to create a wonderful backdrop for the dessert table.

Many delicious treats filled the dessert table for party guests to snack on. Adding height and color to her table through the use of covered containers and window box frames, desserts were beautifully displayed.

According to Angela, the mini pecan pies topped with polka dot flags were a hit, as were the peanuts creatively displayed in glass jars with railroad crossing toppers. There were delicious looking cookies and even chocolates shaped like trains.

With her guests’ tastes in mind, Angela settled on two varieties of store bought cakes (vanilla and chocolate).

She stacked and embellished the tiers with cherry sours and a printable train modeled after the favorite Brio train Levi loves to play with. Simple and sweet, the cake served as a great centerpiece for the dessert table.

Thanking guests with a thoughtful gift is always a great party practice. Darling Kraft colored favor boxes with “thank you’ labels included red and white peppermints and a wooden train whistle. Guests enjoyed tooting a “Happy Birthday” to Levi!
