A boy’s Very Hungry Caterpillar 2nd Birthday Party ushered guests into a charming world filled with wonderful color.
The birthday boy’s favorite book, Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar, was brought to life for Aiden’s birthday celebration created by his talented mom, stylist Sara Sull of August in Bloom.
The party guests were delighted to find a dessert table decorated with treat ideas that fit the theme perfectly. A gorgeous cake, cupcakes and bountiful party food promised delight.

Jennifer Leigh Saunders of Kisses & Cake captured it all.
This dessert table would make any hungry caterpillar right at home! The party backdrop by Envy Anvi was spot on. I love how the bright colors transform the venue, plus tie in with the book’s cover and tantalizing desserts.
Since caterpillars are most at home in nature, the tabletop décor was reminiscent of the great outdoors. A pair of topiary trees beautifully framed the focal point cake.
Wood slab platters, sheet moss and decorative moss balls added to the woodsy feel and made a great presentation for the party food.
The fun cake looks like it was taken directly out of the storybook itself! The caterpillar on top is just perfect and I love how the cake is decorated with colorful food items from the story.
The cookies that the caterpillar left his mark on and the cupcakes that so perfectly coordinate with the cake look absolutely delicious, bet the kids loved them.
Sara made the cake pops; aren’t they amazing? With their pretzel stems, they look like real, miniature apples!
One of the items displayed under glass is a personalized cupcake for the birthday boy himself, decorated with a miniature caterpillar, too.
All of the menu items tied into the theme of Aiden’s favorite book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
The kid friendly party food included goldfish crackers and pots of Jello with washi tape collars.
Sara displayed the candy in glass jars which added a nice sparkle to the dessert table.
Sara designed the caterpillar themed favor bags and each little guest left the party with a personalized canvas tote filled with birthday loot.
From beginning to end, Sara planned out every detail, proving that anything that is a child’s favorite makes a most charming birthday party theme.
