Family Adventures at Kalahari Resorts
This adventure is brought to you by Kalahari Resort.
Winter can feel like an especially long time of year: it’s freezing cold outside and it’s dark by the afternoon. The lack of sunshine and warm air does something negative to my mood despite my best efforts. Once the holidays are over, I struggle along until spring.
This has been a double whammy — on top of the cold temps and darkness, our family has been going through lots of dramatic life changes. Let me tell you, it’s done nothing to improve my mood.
Enter Kalahari: where laughter and warmth abound!
Our trip to Kalahari in Sandusky came at the perfect time for the boys and I. It’s only three hours for our home in mid-Michigan. It’s centrally located for lots of folks and we met people from all over during our visit. It was fantastic to get away for the weekend, to change our pace and just have fun together.
From the moment we pulled up to Kalahari, I could feel the stress melting off me. We arrived Friday evening. The check in process was quick and easy.We were unpacking our swimsuits within minutes of arrival. We got our water park passes on our wrists and headed down to splash.
Our room and bathroom was both clean and comfortable — two musts for me when traveling!
Every staff member we encountered during our visit was friendly — I truly felt they were there to make our stay as wonderful as possible.
I think we could have moved into the water park for a month and been happy! There is so much to do and see: multiple rides, a wave pool, a kiddie area and the lazy river plus great food options. Despite the physical activity, the boys never tired of the fun.
One of my favorite spots was the indoor/outdoor hot tubs. Sitting outside in the warm hot tub was absolutely divine. I could have parked myself there the entire trip.
On Sunday, we ventured to the arcade. As much as my boys love to be active, they also appreciate a good arcade game. They bounced around from game to game for quite awhile. My oldest and I even enjoyed a few rounds of air hockey together. We won’t talk about who won the majority… 😉
All of our meals were delicious as well. I love that there are multiple dining options. We grabbed breakfast Saturday morning at Java Manjaro which features breakfast sandwiches and an assortment of pastries… plus lots of beverage options including delicious coffee! On Sunday morning, we sat down to breakfast at the Ivory Coast Restaurant. We were starving and the meal was very filling. Win!
Your sweet tooth can be satisfied with a trip to the Candy Hut. There are also great dining options in the water park like Zulu Grille, which is where we got lunch on Saturday. As a mom, I appreciated the assortment on each menu that assured there was something my boys would enjoy.
Despite the extensive food selection at the resort, I would recommend packing a few snacks. My boys were round the clock ravenous from all the activity. They had a late night snack in our room both nights we were there!
When we checked in, I was given a list of kid’s activities happening over the weekend. If you get tired of the water park or want to do something different, there are lots of options.
There is also a salon and spa that makes for one very happy mama bear! Their Halo Therapy treatment is an amazing experience that you’ll love. It’s salt therapy that uses a halogenerator to vaporize pure salt into the air so it can be inhaled into the lungs. The salt therapy room contains pure organic Himalayan salt and a high-quality halogenerator to turn that pure salt into the salt vapor that provides so many health benefits including a boost to the immune system — perfect during winter! The salt is ionized and then released into the atmosphere. When inhaled, the negatively charged ions attach to the positively charged toxins in the system and neutralize the charge, detoxifying the body from the inside out.
I’m excited to return to Sandusky this summer because there are all new slides opening in the outdoor water park.
Fight the winter blues and book your trip to Kalahari now. I can promise you it’ll be some of the best money you spend this winter!
